  1. not quite for the officionados, but for those of us that drink a lot of "get you through the day" coffee, I have a few kgs of filter coffee left over from when we used a filter machine - can I use it in a proper espresso machine instead of freshly ground. I realise it wont be as good but I would rather drink it than waste it. Is commercial filter grind suitable for use in a real machine?
  2. Received a filter coffee starter pack of beans from Union Coffee just before Xmas to experiment with my aeropress and aergrind. However, I recently finished my last pack of coffee I was using for espresso. I'm just going to use a bag of the Union coffee for espresso when I need it but it got me wondering why is the starter pack I bought labelled as a filter coffee starter pack? What is it about the beans that make it better to use for filter rather than espresso?
  3. Hi all, Not something i usually drink so need a bit of help with finding a nice coffee for a filter machine please. We're hiring a machine for our wedding and i'd rather not resort to the supermarket/mainstream brands and have something tasty for our guests to drink. Thanks in advance
  4. Hi all, Been a while. Things certainly seemed to have changed around here! I've recently got hold of a bravilor bonamat novo for serving filter coffee at home when there are guests around to save me having to stand there producing pour over coffee. Interested to see if anyone has any experience and/or ideas in respect of the queries below: -bloom; how can this be achieved? Is it necessary? -General grind size for 1.2litre brew (id be using a wilfa grinder with it)? - adjusting grind size/brew time for smaller brews? - is keeping the coffee hot by placin
  5. I'll be visiting Berlin next week. I've got the obvious coffee spots bookmarked from previous visits (The Barn, Five Elephant), but the question is 'which beans should I bring back with me?' Exclusively for filter; fruitier = better. Suggestions please!
  6. Looking t sell my Technivorm Moccamaster 741.73B have put it on in for sale but no takers lots of lookers. I think its a fair price as it has had very little use. To many other toys!!!!! I tried it at £85 does that seem about right? Cheers Vince
  7. So, whilst I'm on dreaming and spending money I don't actually have, just curious. Right now I'm relatively happy with my Vario - that is to say I know the espresso grind quality is not all that but the there is one aspect of functionality I get from it that I have not as yet seen elsewhere: Basically during the week, due to the general portability of espresso machines and office regulations, I'm stuck with an aeropress - so during the week I am grinding for filter. By the weekend I am generally grinding for espresso, however my missus also does the occasional filter around the
  8. For some “coffee lovers” the coffee extracted with the V60 is a model of good habit, for others it represents the will to go deeper into the knowledge of this technique; let us see how to run tests and play with this tool... Even in Italy, a espressofanatic country, the techinques of brewing are getting more and more popula; is this the reason why we thought to these experiment, even in Italy we need to get familiar with V60 and the other kind of tools! To run tests a starting hypothesis was needed: we had to taste the same coffee twice, changing, from the first to the second extract
  9. Cooking a gorgeous new Rwanda this morning more info here: http://falconspecialty.com/collections/rwanda/products/mwasa target roast will be super light but fully developed, 4 FOC samples for forum members up for grabs for feedback Trev With the Pink Banner
  10. So I've got a Silvia and Rocky for espresso and a chemex for brewed coffee, however my wife quite likes filter coffee. She wants one that will brew in the morning with minimal fuss and has bought a one cup swan filter machine but the coffee isn't great and I wouldn't mind grabbing a cup on those early mornings I'm in a rush. So has anyone got any recommendations for filter machines that brew at a consistent temperature and if they have a programmable timer that would be even better. Many thanks in advance
  11. so i was brewing coffee in my filter. then my wire mesh at the bottom of my plunger got out of shape! so i was wondering how i could resize it to the shape of my filter(because it is all bent on the edge)??? Filter: THIS IS BENT! how can i mend it so it fits again?
  12. I now have some filter coffee which was ground by the Shop just before I managed to acquire a grinder. I don't want to waste the coffee! Using my French Press very gently some grounds still remain in the coffee. To compensate, do our experts think that I could use the Press firstly and then I could successfully pass the coffee through a cloth filter to remove the remaining grounds. Cloth filters are readily available where I live. I guess the main drawback would be the coffee becoming much cooler? Yes I know I could just filter it but I'm also endeavouring to improve my French Pre
  13. Hi all Went shopping today for last minute stuff to take away with me and I decided to use my new Starbucks card and get a "tall fresh filter coffee" for £1. Well the result was kind of disappointing, the brew was rather strong and I wasn't able to discern any particular flavours from it, not that I'm an expert at "tasting/cupping" coffee but I can generally pick out certain things, maybe the overall strengh masked out the other flavours. I think I probably would have it again mainly due to for a £1 its "not bad" but next time I will probably add a pinch of sugar just to curb the taste
  14. Hi Discovered the site while doing some research into a replacement grinder - still haven't found one, but found you lot! Had a little Bodum electric grinder that died this morning, and use a standard filter coffee machine (but loving that timer for fresh coffee as soon as I wake up!) Like to experiment wth different bean blends, and use a great little shop that indulges our experiments. Coffee is always black, always piping hot, but I confess, at work it is always instant. One day would love a chemex coffee maker.
  15. Right guy, another discussion has started to ramble on a different thread, so want to funnel it into here. Drink prices has long been a real thorn in my side. When I started at Coffee Aroma, I didn't really mind the £2 we charge per most coffees. However with increased knowledge, realisation of our workload, and understanding of coffee prices, I started to get annoyed. We were slowly becoming the cheapest coffee shop in town. Cheaper than the chains that buy cheap coffee, use the most efficient and cheapest method of coffee production, and cut corners in many places. I had a rea
  16. Hi, I'm about to buy some Filtropa #4 for the MoccaMaster KGBT, but I'd like to know if there's any other suggestions that people prefer in 2020? Would the MoccaMaster-branded papers be identical to Filtropa? Cheers.
