  1. Well after some frustrated deal hunting I have been tempted by a demo Silvia with full warranty for £299. PM`s exchanged with SandyKT about the Silvia led me to just have a look and I could not resist and I know that at some point in the future if I do feel the urge yet again it will sell on easily. Half my planned budget so I am being tight and Scottish. Don
  2. I have has this coffee machine for a while, bought off ebay working all fine but the flow started coming through VERY slow. I have taken off the casing and had a look put it back together again and now the lights dont even come on I have the connected the ribbon to the control pannel). It still heats up when you plug it in but the control panel isn't working. Could anyone give me any advise how to fix it or know where I can send it for repair off warranty? thanks dave
  3. Hi, So, i have the familiar problem. No flow at all from the group head. I can get flow at the steam wand though. I've dissasembled it, expecting the solenoid to be blocked (there is an audible click when trying to use group head). Unfortunately it wasn't blocked. I'm thinking its the jet in the group head as i can't blow through it, i think it would connect through from one of the side holes that go into the solenoid. I'm not sure if this is normal as its a high pressure jet or if i should be able to blow it through? If it is blocked how do i clean it through. Thanks, Paul
  4. I know from reading online that the Silvia wand can be retrofitted to Gaggia Classic and wondered if the same thing can be done with the Baby Dose. Cheers Don
  5. First and most importantly, both Sadie and I agree that the coffee is even better than I was getting with the Gaggia, without veering wildy into the faintly ridiculous hyperbole encountered on other forums (I mention no names lest I be struck down by leaf rust). The flavour has more complexity and is very moreish, we had three rather than the usual two this morning. Guess some of the subtleties were being masked, why?, no idea. THE MACHINE ITSELF Feels really solidly made, far more so than the Gaggia Baby, mind you the Gaggia Classic feels reasuringly solid though less so than the Silvia. Nice chunky switches that look easy to replace, sturdy ball joint mounted steam wand with decent power which is fast enough in the home environment unless I needed to do a raft of milk based drinks , no not close to a commercial machine but it is twice as fast as the Gaggia which is my current reference. Microfoam no problem at all with it. Easy to open up and work on if necessary, accessible screws, standard spade connectors on the wiring, chunky brass components and not too cramped for space inside. Warming rack has space for four good sized mugs rather than two, not a lot bigger on the kitchen worktop than the Gaggia but weighs twice as much so it doesn`t tend to move as easily when you lock the portafilter in. Are there any things that could be better, YES The drip tray is sturdy but really shallow, you couldn`t sell it to a sparrow as a bird bath. All Rancilio needed to do was make the machines base part a bit deeper and there is a lip to slide the tray over so if it is a bit full you dribble water over the back of it when removing it, Doh. More volume than the Baby though which is tiny and a pain to clean. The thermostat deadband is much more noticeable than on the Baby so I have to encourage it more with water flushes to get some action. This will be addressed with the PID kit which I had sussed by some online research. CONCLUSION Worth buying? absolutely yes Better than the Gaggia? yes but I would have no hesitation recommending a Gaggia as a decent espresso machine, we have thoroughly enjoyed the coffee made by ours, one caveat, always get a 3 way solenoid version. Will PIDding it result in better coffee, I very much doubt it, but it will make the process of nailing shots easier with the tighter thermostat control. Pity that the group head shroud is chromed plastic rather than metal. Don
  6. hi guys, my baby dose had stopped working and im out of ideas, when i try to make a coffee the pump doesnt make its usual rumble, and it doesnt pull water through. the pump does still make a quiet noise like its trying but not actually pumping. ive descaled fully before this problem, also i stripped the machine last night, took the pump apart all seemed ok no signs of blockage. when i put it back together it worked fine however woke up this mornin and back to square one any ideas? also what i cant get my head around is i have 2 baby doses , and they both now have the exact same problem, ive swapped tanks/ washers between them , the problem seems to be within the machines. any advice would be much appreciated thanks. baby
