  1. This coffee grinder Astoria/CMA branded was bought by me a couple of years ago in very good conditions and with a low number of twacks, about 3000. For some deep scratches under the portafilter fork it was repainted. Used for 1 year with auberins timer fitted, doser is untouched, no mod done. Original hopper present. Come with original and new (10 kg of coffee) 151A non-titanium burr set. Please ask if you need further info or pics.
  2. Since moving to a dual boiler, I'm selling my Silvia V3 limited edition white. I added an Auber PID about 2 yrs ago which made loads of difference to the temperature control and stability, timing shots and speeding up the stream function. Always regularly backflushed and descaled. Does not come with bottomless portafilter, just the standard 2 spout with single, double and blank basket. Also, Rancilio and Auber instruction manuals. Any questions, feel free to ask. Collection from Sittingbourne, Kent.
  3. A bit of an update on my PID kit that I've recently been working on. Whilst I'm keeping the current kit alive and kicking, and the full details of it are still here: http://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthread.php?27931-MrShades-Gaggia-Classic-PID-Kit-Complete-PID-kit-with-full-guide-%A389 I've also been working on a kit that uses a PID controller that looks almost identical to the Auber one. It's 1/32DIN (rather than 1/16DIN for the Rex C100) and therefore half the size. It's half the size as it only has one display (rather than the two displays on the 1/16DIN Rex C100). It's obviously much smaller, and this kit comes with a new aluminium box - that is also a two-part box (Auber seem to use an extruded single piece box, which you can't simply assemble around the controller once you've wired it up). As with the other kit, there's a cut-out in the front (around 44mm x 22mm) and a rubber grommeted hole in the rear. As with the normal kit, all the SSRs and wires and everything else come with it - and they're all the same as the original kit. Hence there's now two options: 1. The original 1/16 DIN kit, with dual display - being a larger unit, with larger enclosure 2. This new 1/32 DIN kit, with single (dual purpose) display - being a smaller unit, with smaller enclosure As with everything, when it's smaller it's also more expensive (which is true for the PID controller and the aluminium enclosure) so this 1/32 DIN version is £5 more than the 1/16 DIN version - so it's £94 shipped to the UK. Any questions, please just ask - and I have these in stock now and if you'd like one then please just PM me. Some pics of the kit and controller: (It was cold in the workshop, and hadn't warmed up - so it's showing 14C. Obviously normally it would show the brew temp at around 93C) A couple of pics to allow you to see the difference between the 1/16 DIN (larger, dual display) and 1/32 DIN (this one, smaller and single display) versions: (Other than the fact that it doesn't say "Auber" on the front, if you can see any difference between this PID and the Auber one then let me know!) For the avoidance of doubt, and to prevent any questions - Whilst this 1/32DIN controller LOOKS like the Auber one, and many (if not all) the menu options are the same - it does NOT have the hidden Auber menus, and it does NOT provide preinfusion or any of the fancy Auber only functions. It provides materially the same functionality as the Rex C100 and controls brew and steam temp. I hope you like it! Many thanks, MrShades
  4. Hey folks, mid of the year I bought a Rancilio Silvia (2017 model E). After getting more and more annoyed by temperature surfing I invested into a PID. On Monday I wired everything up, as it was stated in the Auber manual. Unfortunately, there was some stuff missing, or I just overlooked it (several times?), so I checked the video by the guys from Seattle Coffee Gear. The video also didn't clarify all of my questions, e.g., where the orange cable is supposed to be plugged in. Is anybody here kind enough to take a look at the photos and tell me, if it looks right or wrong? I just don't want to plug the machine in and see a monthly salary burn Thanks in advance, Hermann
  5. After a bank-crippling bout of upradeitis to a R58, I'm selling my Silvia. The Silvia is in great condition no dents with the blue Auber PID with steam control and pre-infusion installed. Comes group handle and double basket, silver tamper. Looking for £340, pickup from Guildford. Any questions please ask.
  6. Hi all, I have a 1st gen Silvia, and a couple of years ago I got the plain Auber PID and all has been going well since then (I work from home so the machine is on every day, maybe 2 or 3 espressos a day). But recently I've been getting first a little and then later quite a lot of steam out of the group head, particularly noticeable when I pull an empty shot (warming up the machine, flushing the shower screen etc), to the extent that using a bottomless portafilter it can be quite uncomfortable to hold the cup (drawing empty shots the first burst tends to spray around so I hold the cup up around the grouphead). Suspecting the (screw in) temperature sensor was at fault, I removed and reseated it, but in doing so seems I broke the wires ("EEEE" display on the PID) so ordered one of @MrShades excellent more-robust replacement sensors (which I'd recommend to anyone) and fitted that. That fixed the EEEE error, but the whole machine still seemed to be running too hot. Thinking maybe scale could be causing a false reading, I descaled the machine (twice in a week, just to be sure), and cleaned off the old thermal paste at the sensor and reseated it, more carefully this time, using a thin scraping of another thermal paste (silver based) that I use for CPUs, but still no difference. If I wind the temperature on the PID down to 95 it seems to make little difference, down to 85 and there's less steam.. but interestingly if I point an infrared contactless thermometer at an empty shot, it's still showing the water temperature (of an empty shot) to be about 90C. Pointing the same at the outside walls of the boiler similarly shows high temperatures (greater than the PID shows) Slight aside here - I never understood why the PID would be set to 105 or whatever - surely the actual wall of the boiler cannot be hotter than the water inside which is surrounding the element - basic laws of thermodynamics. Surely if we want the water at, say, 95, so that it comes out of the grouphead at 92, and then into the cup at 85, then the sensor on the boiler would be set to slightly below 95... maybe 85 or 90, not 105 ! What am I missing here? So, long and short of it... either my machine has suddenly become aware of the 1st law of thermodynamics (heat energy can only ever pass from a hotter to a colder system), or something has broken on my machine, quite possibly the PID. I haven't fiddled with the PID other than using the up and down arrows to change the temperature... any suggestions as to how I can check/reset the PID (the temperature shown does seem to be jump 2 or 3C up and down almost at random sometimes). Or some other thing to do to the machine? I suppose I can order a new PID from Auber (wonder if they'd sell just the programmed PID without the relay and sensor etc) but if anyone has any bright ideas, I'm all ears... Cheers -- Tim
  7. I was looking around at PID's for the Silvia and came across this website.http://www.plccenter.co.uk/Buy/AUBER%20INSTRUMENTS/SYL1512AI noticed this is the same model as the PIDs on the Auber site with the steam and pre infusion, just wanted to check if I'm on the right lines? If so, has anyone used the site before and what else do I need to buy to put a kit together? Cheers.
  8. So I am 90% toward finishing my first project, so thought I would share. Mazzer doser Auberins Timer mod. Very little DIY needed. This completely houses all 3 switches, and the timer. It requires a new hole to be drilled in the metal wall of the doser which allows the wires to enter the lid. Other than this it is just wiring. It requires the upper veins and screw to be removed but works in conjunction with a printed cone to direct the coffee to the lower vein sweepers. Finished product will be coated in a food safe resin, but I obviously cannot certify food safety beyond this. I'll post more details when I think it is 100% complete (should be about 2 weeks I think, but a lot of my project drag). I'll have to check things out with Glenn first but anyone interested can get one of these housings for about £30.
  9. After a case of upgraditis, I now have my solid 2012 Limited Edition Silvia V3 for sale. I have had it for about 3yrs and has served me well, only upgrading due to needing to make multiple drinks at the same time. Since having it I've added an Auber PID which makes quite a difference to being able to play around with different types of coffees, speeding up the steam function and timing shots. Always regularly backflushed and descaled, and is a really well looked after machine. It also comes with a Rancilio bottomless portafilter, single, double, triple baskets as well as, IMS competition filter. I'll also throw in a jug and thermometer, spares gaskets, blank basket, cleaning brush, instruction manual, Auber instruction CD and Puro cleaning powder. I do have a dobboco distribution tool and Torr 58.55 tamper available too, at additional cost. £400 ono. Collection preferred from Sittingbourne, Kent, due to size and weight. Any questions, feel free to ask.
  10. I do a lot of stuff but the one thing I am not so hot on is electronics. So I'm wanting my SJ auto fill to give out a timed dose - ill go through what I've already seen first. The auberins specific Mazzer auto-fill mod (http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=302) This is awesome and being honest has more features than I need so a cheaper simpler one dose setting at a better price point must be available? More looking around and you can buy just the auber timer box all pre programmed for a coffee grinder this halves the price of the ready to fit mazzer auto full kit and is more around the price point I want to pay. There are alternative timer controllers coffeehit do a delta timing box - http://www.coffeehit.co.uk/delta-cta-timer/p900 this defeats the price point objective though and finally there is a sestos timing controller on eBay for £21.99 (http://bit.ly/XKOh3V) and if that will work and can be fitted with not much differences in amount of faffing to the other stand alone box units it's probably where my money will go. Auber has a lot of instruction on how the mazzer circuitry works, which is a lot of help I'm just wondering on the nitty gritty things really like wiring what to what and if it is a possibility of working. I'm sure other people will find this and use it if I can get that sestos unit to control the SJ, I just want a lean mean sparky to tell me what's what! Thanks in advance for any information or thoughts to help me on my quest..
  11. There is plenty of room inside you SJ for an Auber timer should you want to fit one in a permanent way. Below is a wiring guide for the Mazzer SJ Timer model after the switch is removed.
  12. I recently purchased a Auber PID without the pre-infusion. After installing two wires and 1 minute of programming, I now have an Auber PID with pre-infusion... and you can too! Step one the wiring: Pins 4 and 5 on the PID are a relay output. They can control the Brew Pump Switch. Pin 4 needs to be jumped to Pin 2 (for relay power) Ping 5 needs to be wired to the Brew Pump Switch. The white wire (top wire of Brew Pump Switch) is the one you want. FYI you need the Brew Pump Switch in the on position in order for the Pre-Infusion timer to work the Pump. Step two the programming: Press SET Enter the super secret menu 0037 by using the next and up/down arrows Press SET You will see five menu options using up/down arrows: -caty (default 1) -sf (default 012) -bb (default 040) -tA (default 0) -end tA is where you want to go. the A of tA kind of looks like an A but with two of the LCD segments missing. It looks like a lower case n with a line above the n. With tA selected press SET Change 0 to 1 by pressing up/down Press SET Go to END Press SET You now have an Auber PID with Pre-Infusion enabled! Try testing it out even without the wiring installed. You will see the timing sequence on the LCD screen if you press the clock/next button on the PID (button next to SET). For those of you interested in how to change the Pre-Infusion timing settings go to youtube and search: SCG How-To Guides: Programming the Auber PID on the Rancilio Silvia For those wondering on how I found super secret menu 0037: I had a hunch that the Pre-Infusion option was a simple programming switch but none of the programming menus (0001,0036 and 0089) had options that suggested enabling features. So I started hunting for other menus starting at 0002 and going up from there. Found a menu under 0037 and two options that had either 0 or 1 (on or off). Figured why not change them to see what happens! Enjoy!
  13. A few pics were asked for in another thread, I started working on this polish a long time ago and then had a very busy year and it just took a back seat. I finished it recently and also finished a printed motor cover. I had planned to make a PF holder for it as well, but just never got around to it... maybe I still will. I may sell it on however if I decide to purchase something else.
  14. Just an observation but I wondered if this is true of others who have timed grinders. I have an Auber Timer on my SJ, and when changing bean I often notice that whilst the grind needs changing to achieve a starting 25second shot, often when I hit the right grind the timer setting to get the right amount of coffee remains close to, if not exactly identical to the previous bean.
  15. I've perused the threads I can find on fitting the Auber but has a consensus developed for the best tools to drill the 3 holes, and to cut out the square section? Also, anybody know if the auber can be mounted on the front? Last silly question from an electronics numpty...which wire should be used to make all the connections?
