Thread: Electric burr grinder - sub £150 range - new or second hand?

    For 120 you can buy a good Mazzer SJ(64mm), and if you want you can spend additionally 20-30 pounds for mods. If you don't like mods go for Mignon (50mm). Having a mass grinder like Super Jolly is big advantage in term of burrs, spares etc.

    £120 seems a bit cheap for a SJ, where can you pick them up for that price as in the market for one?

    Mine was bought for that price in 9/10 condition, have an eye on gumtree and ebay.

    good to know will keep a lookout, all the SJ's seem to be upwards of £250 closer to £150 would be happy with.

    @lake_m I did have a read round after your post. At this stage where Iím still getting the dosing basics, consistency in tamping and pull times sorted, not sure if I would notice the burr size difference.

    I went for a new Mignon Silenzio in the end, massive improvement in comparison to my hand grinder, really quiet and sits nicely next to my coffee machine under the counter. Also picking the light blue one has meant it goes pretty decently with the other things in the kitchen which is a definite plus point!

    Ended up being £315 from bella barrista, at least they included two bags of free fancy beans to soften the blow a little...
