  1. In excellent condition, £15 posted RM 2nd class.
  2. I decided to take the plunge and invest in a 15g VST Ridgeless. My current 18g VST is great but wanted a slightly smaller yield to suit my palette. The first shot was a bit too fast even though I had made the grind finer and along with a dose of 15.3g - ending with 29g in 22s Second - 15.5g - not much different to above Both the above shots were quite good to taste but I think the Vesuvius is quite forgiving! I then tried a search on the forum with pretty poor results, followed by google which led me back to here...which took me to: https://colonnacoffee.com/blogs/maxwell/15g-baskets Third shot: 15.2g>29.5g>31s This was 10s/2br > 30s/6br. I must admit I ended up with a perfect end result 👍 So a quick summary: No real change on dose from 18g basket (scaling down of course) Finer grind on the Niche (10 for me) Extract at 6 Bar 😉👍

    18g VST Ridgeless

I am after one if anyone has a spare. I have a 20g if a swap is if interest but happy to buy.
  4. I'm looking to aquire a VST and had a few questions. I'll be using it for pour over. What equipment do I need besides these gadget itself? Filters? Syringers? Software? The VST shop got an unbundled version where you can add software, syringe/filter and chooses soft case color. Do you need the PC software? Do you need the app? Is it sturdy or should I get a hard case?
  5. Looking for a 15gm ridgless. Used or new. The 20 is used.
  6. Anyone have one they are not using?
  7. Hi All, I was after some advice if I may. I’m running a Gaggia Classic (Rancilio wand and OPV mod) and Mazzer Super Jolly (had it for about a year). I make 2-4 drinks on a weekend day, usually cappuccino / cortado and the odd mid week drink. Would upgrading to an IMS or VST basket make a difference over the stock (non pressurised) double baskets? Or since I’m mostly going milk based is it not a material difference? Also I can’t seem to find a sensible answer on whether IMS or VST is better, only the one direct comparison (from perfect daily grind) which says any difference is marginal. And if I upgrade the basket is there a benefit to going bottomless on the Portafilter at the same time? Thanks for any / all advice and sorry for the long question!
  8. Hi All have been looking around here for a few weeks now. Lot of interesting snippets of information on here. Who would know making a cup of coffee was such a science, or is it an artform. Eitherway im hoping to find out soon! We started out with Tassimo and Dolce gustos many years ago, moving on to 2 different nespresso machines. Swiftly followed by a bean to cup delonghi for 2 years and another bean to cup Krups for another 2 years. That brings us to Christmas 2018 and i got to thinking wouldnt it be great to do it properly, it looks easy! So 5000 hours on youtube later and we went for a sage duo temp pro. Looked perfect. Yep it wasnt bad but we only drink americano and Latte and i now realise how impatient i am. So a week later and very luckily I was allowed to swap it rather than another ebay sale i went for the Dual Boiler and sage smart grinder pro. The duo temp instantly gave better coffee but as i always make 1 americano and 1 latte it was taking too long. Nothing at all wrong with the machine for the record. Wont go in to details here as i do have a Help thread started but the thing im struggling with is dosing. I had a motta 58mm tamp which is about identical to the stock sage tamper but in my opinion not a great fit and end up with loose coffee of top at the circumference. Another session on google and I see a Rave (!) review on the Torr Titanium tamper which was ordered with a vst 20g basket. The finish to the puck is very smooth and the tamper is almost a piston fit to the basket. Was a little frustrated with the sage grinder as it never really sounded right with a lot of variation in speed as it was grinding. Coffee to me was good though even though arguing with mysely about quantity, puck height extraction time and volume. Yep, im sure it will be fine.... Anyways i get an email from indiegogo about a niche zero grinder. Read the story and discard it. Dont want to be spending out another 500 quid for a grinder when mine is only a month old. Well the story grinds on me as they do and i get to thinking its another great indiegogo story and its helping out a startup and the grinder looks great with its oak and black finish. So 6 weeks later it was delivered. Wow, what can i say, yep its a grinder but how can 2 grinders be so different. This one sounds great, feels great and whats more the coffee looks the same every time. Having read a bit about segregation i give it a good shake with the niche cup on the portafilter and tamp. So the sage grinder will be on ebay as soon as i find the time. Had the niche about a month now and the word seems to be consistency. All i need to do now is work out what im doing wrong. If i grind fine enough to get anywhere near the height suggested by the razor i need around 22 to get 45 odd grams out in 30 second total. Not sure if im mixing science with art or trying to run before i can walk but i need to get in my head how the numbers interact. Ive not thrown a cup of coffee away yet so i cant be a mile off. Anyway wheres the best deal on an 18g vst Will persevere and keep reading on here for inspiration before i try to start getting my head around how anyone and do latte art! Its pure witchcraft at the moment. But it still tastes good! Ade
  9. As per title - up for grabs is my VST 15g ridged basket. Comes with all original packaging and documentation. Condition is as new, only used twice. Will also be advertising this elsewhere. £20 posted (UK).
  10. Good day all. I'm thinking a new basket is in order as the one I have with my Classic is the original and now 12 years old so I'm sure it has seen better days. It will be a double basket to hold between 16-18grams if possible. From my basic understanding am I right thinking that a VMS basket is a bit more forgiving? Has anyone had both and noticed wild differences? And any recommendations on a particular model. Thanks all!
  11. Continuing the quest for better coffee, i'm interested in a stainless steel portafilter for my Synchronika, or E61 group heads. Reasons are: - Deeper VST baskets (22g+) - Easier to clean and maintain - Not worrying about chrome plating, teflon coatings, etc After investigation, options are: - La Marzocco (needs grinding to fit E61 group head) - Pesado (Where can i get them in Europe?) - Decent (Where can i get them in Europe?) - Cafelat (i think they don't make them anymore) Anyone knows of more options available, or how to get the Pesado or Decent ones hre in Europe?

  13. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Eureka-Mignon-Perfetto-Kaffeem%C3%BChle-Chrom/dp/B07G4FC61Q The grinder integrated in the oracle touch (same as Sage Smart Grinder Pro) is not the best grinder making top reproducible results. So what i am looking for to train my skills and maybe get better results is a grinder that: - make constant and reproducible results - grind fine and good enough for the VST 15g - is just great Is that Eureka good for that or do i have to get another? Must be definitive MUCH better than the Sage because otherwise it surely makes no sense to upgrade. I want perfection, so please be honest
  14. Just bought a plumbed original L1 on this forum to add to my Vesuvius and Ponte Vecchio Lusso and am in the process of getting to the best basket / dose combination. On my Vesuvius, I dose 18g in an 18g VST basket. When I do the nickel test (or 5p) the dose leaves the correct impression at between 17.5g and 18g with the beans I am using -perfect. However, when I do the same test on the L1, in the 18g VST I only get 15.5g before it leaves an impression whilst in the 20g VST I get 17g. This is with both the Londinium IMS 35 screen and the KVW screen I have on the Vesuvius when used on both. I am trying to get the same headspace when dosing on both machines. I know VST recommend +/- 1g with their baskets but dosing based on the nickel test I do get nice pours and it empties dry like a hockey puck. Just feels wrong to dose outside VST guidelines. Also, not sure why the difference between the machines - i’m using new Londinium groups seals. Does the L1 make the screen sit lower - not sure. Are other experienced Londinium users dosing with VST and having similar results? My pre-infusion at 1.3bar is 7 seconds

    VST Ridgeless

If I have used this it was once. £18 posted. Jony
  16. Hey, I am wondering if anyone has a VST 18g basket (mine is ridgeless) and Silvia combination? I just got mine and struggling a bit. Flow in VST is faster than in the stock pf which means I should either grind finer or updose. What I see if I go for the nominal dosage (18g) then I have to grind really fine (3 on my Rocky) + it is a bit awkward to level it off (cannot really sweep with a finger). Also, the coffee ends up certainly not bad but a bit blander than I was getting with the stock pf. Another option is to updose. That's what I am doing and like the results tastewise (I dose 19.5g and grind one step coarser). However it feels odd. The ground certainly hits the shower screen (not to mention the screw!), so I even have to apply some force to turn the handle to unseal it. I am a newby so maybe doing something totally wrong. I'd appreciate any advice. In case it is informative: I am using, what I believe are, medium / medium dark beans from my local roaster (Artisan Roast, Cobblestone 2.5)
  17. I'm selling my VST Lab Coffee III refractometer as I'm not really using it and keen to release the funds. I've only used it about 10-15 times so the unit is practically new, with the protective cover for the screen/control area still on. It also comes with all microfilters (I think I used 1 or 2), 3 syringes and 5 pipettes and cleaning pads. I bought it for £750 (+shipping) from hasbean, and it has the windows/Mac software included too. I never emailed VST to ask for the software, so the license hasn't been used. You can email them and get the software too as if it was brand new. Anything you need (order numbers etc) I can provide. I'm asking for £600 + shipping. If you're in the London area, happy to meet in person if you'd like to save on delivery and inspect the unit in person. Any questions, requests for more photos, just ask!
  18. I've got some 0.45 micron syringe filters that I'd like to do a side by side comparison with the VST ones to see how they stack up. I'm after 3-5 VST ones and I'm happy to swap some of these and some cash in return so that someone else can also compare them, or just some straight cash if preferred. Can anyone help me out?
  19. Hi all. I've finally given and and promised to reduce the space my coffee "stuff" takes up. I am willing to split, offers welcome if buyer multiples. I have included insured courier delivery prices for the big items and regular for the others, but will give preference to those able to collect from central Bristol. Here are the details: 2002 Gaggia Classic /w Rancilio Silvia steam wand (£130 collection, £150 delivered) I bought this refurbished from our very own MartinB here less than 18 months ago, so you know it's in decent shape! Never had an issue with it, still in perfect working order and it has: Rancilio Silvia steam wand OPV set to 10 BAR New boiler and group seal just 18 months ago Descaled Portafilter and double basket (original, so looking pretty well used) Newer 21g basket Original Box Mazzer Super Jolly (£210 collected, £240 delivered) I rescued this from a cafe that didn't last long, around 18 months ago when I got the Gaggia. I gave it a good clean and replaced the burrs, and it's worked like a dream since. I have been using a lens hood rather than the original hopper, but I do have that and the grind tray. I also installed the classic "Mouse" cocktail shaker mod and the "clean sweep" mod to make it easier to use for single doses. There are a few paint chips on the front (pictures included) and at the back but all very superficial. Motta 58mm Tamper (£10 collected, £12 delivered) Lovely Motta tamper with black wooden handle. Perfect conditiion. Naked Portafilter (£15 collected, £25 delivered) Fits the above Gaggia Classic, and most likely others. Great condition, a little wear and tear but it's only a year old. 18g VST Basket (£18 collected, £20 delivered) Not much else to say really! Also in near perfect condition, some edge marks from going into the above portafilter. Silicon Tamping Mat (10 collected, £12 delivered) Really nice little counter-edge tamping mat, with space for the tamper and a rest for the portafilter while tamping. Struggled to add pictures but they can be found here: https://imgur.com/a/kZyGG
  20. Hi. Looking for one to compare it with my 18gr. Thanks
  21. I have a newly acquired Gaggia Classic, so looking at baskets. I may go down the VST route at some point, but I have a general question. Simply put, what's the point in different size baskets when you can just fill up a standard double basket half way, third of the way or whatever? Is there any advantage in having a smaller basket, and if so what? I know there are disadvantages as well, because the VST 15mm basket is harder to work with than the 18mm. Fill me in on the theory and practice here please!
  22. Hello everyone! I am moving from UK, and I won’t have any space to use all of my coffee equipment in my next apartment, therefore I am selling my beloved and well maintained items. 23. Anyone have a VST, DTS meter for sale? Thanks in advance Mike
  24. I am new to the forum and in the process of placing an order for a decent machine and grinder, so in the meantime I am satisfying my lust for somewhere near the Holy Grail in scouring the forum, time permitting, in doing so I note several references to like minded people swapping out the machine manufacturers porta filters and baskets in favour of a VST replacement. What is so different that warrants such a change ?. Jon-Willy.
