  1. It's not really a turd but you have to question who in Pavoni decided on brown. I wanted to pull one of these apart that wasn't the one I use daily and I found this one. It's in pretty good knick. The plan is to fix the electrics, change all the seals, give it a good clean and de-scale and get it powder coated. My original idea was to change the colour to a light blue or orange but it's an old machine and now that I've seen it I'm thinking of keeping the original colour. Anyone have an opinion on colour? Any suggestions of what I should do to it? This is especially aimed at the forums restoration king @jimbojohn55
  2. Hi I have a Milenium Pavoni, and find that the shot weights are rather inconsisitant and a bit low. I am aware of the fake pressure thing, and always bleed the steam wand into a jug of water for 30-40 seconds after filling. For a 15g dose of consistant beans, I get anthing from 17-20g out. I am aware of a mini-felini wiggler on the lever, but I feel it damages the puck, as pours from this method always chanel, so not keen on that solution even though it gives larger and more consistant shot weight. Should I adjust the p-stat for slightly higher pressure, currently the dial hovers around 0.6-0.7 bar ? Any thoughts appreciated.
  3. Hi guys, for sale is my Nov 1978 La Pavoni Europiccola which I bought here from coffeechap about April 2016. I've used it daily every day since it was bought to make about six cappas/espressos and frankly it's now in a bit of a state, it does work however and it's had all seals replaced by me with the exception of the two seals in the piston which is leaking also the shower screen replaced at least twice and also the basket has been replaced too but it will definitely need all of the seals replaced again soon but I presume someone will do a full restoration on this machine. The base is rusted under the drip tray but there's no holes however the plastic drip tray is cracked but the element works fine, it's the two element version with no pressure stat. I live in a soft water area so I've used tap water and the boiler is clean. The original La Pavoni three hole steam tip is included however I do have a single hole aftermarket steam tip that I could include for another £5, it's much better for steaming milk than the original steam tip but it's a bit discoloured. I also have an original La Pavoni pressure gauge and adaptor for sale separately (see for sale thread) but if anyone buys this machine and wants the pressure gauge and adaptor I'll be happy to offer a discount on them. The original 49mm double basket and portafilter is included along with a metal 49mm tamper (might be an original La Pavoni however I'm not sure). So I'm selling this La Pav EP for spares or repair so please refer to the photos if you want to buy it. I'm looking for £60 posted, reasonable offers will be considered so please PM if you want to make an offer or require more information or additional photos. I'll leave it up here for a week and if there's no interest in it then I'll put it on Ebay next week. Thanks Tony
  4. Hi guys- me again. Have been looking online for single hole steam tips for the LP- quite a few on ebay etc, but noticed that most are just drilled dome nuts. For a millennium LP would a 6mm dome nut work? Definitely works out a lot cheaper to just drill one yourself and with a pack of 4 can create different diameter holes. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stainless-steel-metric-domed-Delivery/dp/B009YN0Y1E Chris
  5. For sale is my La Pav, Love this little machine, I’ve owned it for about 2years, using occasionally at work. Before that it was a friends and his dads before that so has been well looked after from what I can tell! There’s a bit of rust under the driptray, but other than that it’s in great condition. Looking for around £150 for it. Comes with a custom tamper and usual size double basket and pf Collection from Horndean, Hampshire James
  6. I wish I had been, but its fascinating to see some pictures from inside the factory - report links to Francesco's site http://www.francescoceccarelli.eu/Recensioni/lapavoni/lapavoni_visit.htm should say the new machines imho are a step in the wrong direction with too many budgie perches
  7. I think this is probably my next step on the espresso road. I’m leaning towards a Professional, but might consider a Europiccola.
  8. For sale is my La Pavoni Europiccola 1974 V1.7, which is now unfortunately sat in my office un-used as . I now have a Fracino Little Gem in the office so that everyone in the office can enjoy the delights of fresh coffee, as I was feeling guilty drinking fresh when everyone else drank instant…… The machine is the 1974 version 1.7 with aluminium base, see the link for a complete description of this model http://www.francescoceccarelli.eu/La_Pavoni/Schede/EP_1974_02_eng.htm . It has the brass sleeve and piston but with the removable shower screen. I bought the machine about a year ago to use as my office machine. At the time of purchase the seller said the seals had been replaced, but I cannot guarantee this as I haven’t taken the machine apart to check. It had been descaled when I bought it and I have just descaled it again, but have only used ashbeck bottled water in it so you can see from the pictures it is nice and clean inside. It has the aluminium base so no rust at all. It was only used for about 8 months, making 3 or 4 drinks a weekI have only used ashbeck in it It comes with a 49mm motta tamper and one of whityj’s 3d printed doser funnels. I wish I could keep it and will be sad to see it go, but I really cant justify having it sat at the office as an ornament. It can be yours for £170 picked up from Bury St Edmunds Suffolk Pressure Gauge removed and has been sold separately, image left to illustrate working pressure.
  9. Just wondering if anyone has any experience using IMS shower screen & baskets in a La Pavoni. Is it worth the extra cost? Does it make a noticeable difference to production or taste? I know the general consensus on these things, but can't find anything with specific regard to the Europiccola/Professional.
  10. Spares or Repair... easy to fit new gaskets and away ya go! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Iconic-La-Pavoni-Europiccola-Espresso-EPC-8-CUP-Coffee-Machine-with-accessories/253269546114?hash=item3af80a9482:g:hdsAAOSwrFtaE1Q0
  11. Sooooo - for the Pav heads out there an evolution of the Europiccola was the introduction of the Teflon piston around 1995 - replacing the brass piston , the idea was to prevent or lessen overheating and thus make the pav a more sensitive soul than in its heady youth in the 60's. well that's the theory, fellow member Christos has the sameish year of pre millennium euro and in his rebuild opted for the traditional brass piston, so in a typically coffee forum uk way we have the chance to compare group head temp rise as we have both fitted the same pressure gauge and temp strips to our machines. Is the info below of any use? ive no idea, is it scientific mehh not really but we are having a go to compare Teflon vs Brass pistons in a 1995 euro. the first test was based on the following test conditions Teflon (plastic piston) machine at room temp boiler filled to top of sight glass water at room temp Portafilter fitted but no basket false pressure bled at 6 min The temp rise went thus - 7.30 min 70 deg C 9.00 min 75 deg C 10.00 min 80 deg C 12.00 min 85 deg C 14.00 min 90 deg C 16.00 min 90 deg C and that was the max - Chistos over to you for the brass piston test (once your Pressure gauge is fitted) we shall see! which one will win in a fight plastic or brass or who cares anyways ! 12. Anybody interested in getting this off my hands. Bought on the Forum but hardly used maybe a couple of times. The machine is in pretty good condition and well looked after. Looking for around the same price I bought it on here £225. Added temperature strips and I'll throw in a Motta Tamper (49mm). Based around South Birmingham, so ideally collection in person but can compromise.
  13. Anyone selling or know where I can find a bottomless 49mm portafilter for a La Pavoni or even where I can get a regular portafilter which I can then chop? I've been looking for months with no joy.
  14. Hi All, Im after a used La Pavoni Europiccola, anyone out there with one that needs a new home?? Im currently without coffee machine aarrrrhhhh!! Thanks
  15. Looking to buy a Europiccola/pro lever machine to restore if need be (because I enjoy that kind of thing) and hopefully learn the espresso ropes on. While searching I've stumbled upon a Zacconi baby which seems to me would be a perfect substitute.Am I on the right track here or completely deluded? I realise spares will be harder to source, any other drawbacks I've not considered?
  16. Hello As the Pavoni makes smallish sized espresso, and I drink 1:1 milk style cortado. I got fed up with the angled steam wand, where you need to fill the milk jug quite high, as you have to hold it at an angle for the wand to sit somewhere in the centre of the jug. This was wasting a lot of milk, and I would prefer to hold the jug straight, instead of tilted. So I thought of bending the steam arm, which looked a bit tricky. But instead looked at the groove that holds the arm in place, by milling the groove about 30deg further allows the steam arm to sit vertically. Which is great, so I can now steam small amounts of milk in a jug held straight. Sorry, long story, here's some pictures to explain more simply: Steam wand groove before milling. Steam wand groove after milling. Steam wand now vertical !!
  17. What's it's value? I've an idea on what average prices are but I think this is a really nice example and worth a bit more? There's no rust, damage or scratches, chrome is nice and shiny with just couple of tiny tiny marks. Check the wiring and base of the boiler it is like new, inside of coffee handle has hardly seen any action. Also the bakelite caps/knobs are gleaming no signs of heat damage at all. I fitted all new group head gaskets and it's been running fine for a few months now. With brass single hole steam tip...
  18. NOW SOLD Listed in the "valuation" section last night. More pictures in there to look at. Consensus of opinion was it's worth between £200 to £250 So I'm going between the two at a price of £225 but obviously you will have the final say on that! My first choice I'd like collection from Bristol or I can run it up/down M4/M5 a little ways... Can also box up if you want to sort courier out. SAME BLURB FROM VALUATION:- There's no rust, damage or scratches, chrome is nice and shiny with just couple of tiny tiny marks. Check the wiring and base of the boiler it is like new, inside of coffee handle has hardly seen any action. Also the bakelite caps/knobs are gleaming no signs of heat damage at all. I fitted all new group head gaskets and it's been running fine for a few months now. Comes with brass single hole steam tip crappy tamp and some instructions probably in Italian... 19. Well this won't last long! £50 for a europiccola in apparent working order! Pre-mil by the looks of it. There's a lot of corrosion on the black base, but at that price you would just buy a new chrome one to fit on it. If this were in my local area I would jump on it. https://www.gumtree.com/p/coffee-machines/il-pavoni-euro-picolo-coffee-machine/1250367287
  20. I have a pre millennium model so the 49mm basket. I was putting in 13g of coffee but I've been advised to try less. Any of you have an opinion on this? Also how long and how hard are you pulling on the lever? My last attempts I was hanging on it for 2min with 12g in the basket which seems a bit extreme. I'm now going to change my beans, I just picked up a bag from Curve Roasters as the last coffee I had was a mess (to be fair they told me at the time it was a hard bean to use). How much will grind size vary from bean to bean? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Well, I know the limit of the Europiccola now... We are having a concrete floor laid in our house as the wooden one was rotten (try 18 ft below river level...) and the builders are here. Before it was one builder and a sparky so no pressure. Now there's 3 builders, my partner and myself. They were hinting that I made great coffee so was under pressure to deliver. Filled the Europiccola with Volvic, just above the sight glass level and switched it on. Measured out 16g doses of Coffee Compass mahogany roast (forum small batch trial) which is on song now. had a little production line going between grinding and pulling shots - even finishing off pulling shots with my elbow whilst grinding the next shot.. Once the mugs (builders don't do 5 oz flat whites) were lined up, it was onto steaming milk in my 500ml Toroid.and Rhinowares thermometer.. Felt like I could've written a book waiting while I steamed each one, never mind read one.. Conclusion, all done, happy builders and an empty La Pavoni.. Mine was the last shot and it was as nice as the first (which was my other half's). Rinsed the pf after each pull which probably helped - although I don't think it had time to overheat. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics, didn't have time... Good job it's nearly finished (laying concrete today so all hands on), as I would be posting in the hopes that someone would lend me an old Londinium and a Mythos
  22. Here is my coffee corner... Mignon was from Bella Barista and La Pav from CFUK's very own Soll. Motta Jug and Monin Hazelnut syrup for Lattes (wife bribes). Grindstein knock box as the Motta was out of stock at cream supplies. Just getting the Mignon dialled in and working on my technique (limbering up for Fellini manoeuvres) before upgraditis sets in... Mjnd you, a Torr tamper would be nice...
  23. I thought I would post my new set up. If anyone has read the thread Help, this is harder than I thought! will know I haven't yet been able to make a good espresso. Hopefully I'll figure it out. On the plus side I like the look of the set up. I took the collar off the grinder which looks good although the Mrs is not happy at the size of it!
  24. Hi everyone. Just joined after buying my first machine. Trying to get to grips with it so looking for any help to try and create a great shot. Couple of questions firstly. What size tamper do I need? And also. If using pre-ground coffee, i.e. Taylor's. will this grind be fine enough ? Thanks in advance
  25. Hi all, I've been reading a lot on this forum over the last few weeks and was initially set on getting a Gaggia Classic with an upgraded wand, but my friend has suggested that a La Pavoni Europiccola may be a better starting point. Until now I've been using a V60 and Rhinowares hand grinder at home, but have been seeking out good coffee shops - mainly in London - for years so have a good idea of what's possible with espresso / flat whites. Which machine would you recommend? The Europiccola seems to only produce a single shot at a time - is this an issue for flat whites? I am planning to stick with the Rhinowares hand grinder for now until I can afford a decent powered grinder - do you think this will be ok? I understand the La Pavoni has a steeper learning curve and this doesn't put me off. I'm happy to put time into learning things, but would ideally like to buy a machine in good condition - I don't want to spend time on repair / diagnosis. What sort of price should I expect to pay for a good second hand Europiccola? I know the Classics are sometimes £75 upwards or £150 for fully reconditioned. Any input appreciated! Cheers!
