  1. Currently I have a PID modded gagia classic and a baratza preciso. After spending a lot of time and effort sorting out a doge 63 grinder (see this thread for details) I just cant get it past the kitchen police long enough to even give it a proper try out. Not sure if i should be looking to upgrade my grinder for a better but more aesthetically pleasing model i.e. mignon, or upgrade the espresso machine to a small second hand e61 head based machine if i could find one. I know a few people will suggest going for the niche grinder but to me £500 seems a lot to spend on a grinder and I have always been a buy second hand and fix it type of person. Trouble is whatever i go for cant be to huge or ugly to be refused entry into the kitchen. Any suggestions welcome.
  2. Hi all and sorry to ask such a simple sounding question but I'm really struggling to decide on what bean grinder I should buy. I don't really want to spend more than £200 and am happy to buy second hand or even one in need of repair. I've used a little Krups GVX2 for 4 years and despite its reputation actually find it does a very good job considering its cost. I have just acquired a Dualit 7502 and have read reviews claiming it's capable of grinding a much finer coffee than the Krups. I actually find my Krups is far more capable and the Dualit does not grind fine enough coffee, even used on its maximum setting. I use a Francis Francis X2 as my coffee maker and make mainly cappuccino / latte with the odd after dinner espresso when I feel the need. Looks are important as my X2 is stainless steel and though not the best machine, it looks the part so I'd like a grinder that also looks good but is capable of a decent grind. I prefer to use a small grinder as only ever grind enough for just myself and don't see the need for a commercial grinder to produce such small amounts. That said, a big, solid machine if capable of small doses would be ok. I'm probably asking too much here but basically I need a grinder that: Looks good (pref stainless steel finish) Grinds properly (for espresso based drinks) Is well built Can do just enough for a double espresso as this is my usual requirement (14 grams). Is priced at around £200 - £250 (new or second hand/non working) Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any advice. Richard
  3. Hi, Would someone please recommend a grinder I can use on my coffee bean market stall. What is the best type, Burr or blade? I'm willing to spend up to £300. Its going to be a medium to high daily use. I would like one that can easily change beween fine and coarse grind. Also, the lower the wattage the better, as some of the markets will not have electrity and I will be powering it with a deep cycle battery. Many thanks in advance! Fitzsy
  4. I have a fiorenzato grinder which sometimes sprays the grinds and it seems to stick to the sides of the doser in a static way (rather than dumping into the doser). I clean the grinder out a check for blockages but find nothing ! The extractions always come out badly and it really annoys me - this genuinely makes me an unhappy person !! Eventually (after wasting loads of coffee) it comes good again. Wondered whether this is familiar to anyone / anyone knows whats going on. Many thanks in advance - Adam
  5. After owning a well trusted, Rancillio Rocky for a number of years, I'm thinking of replacing and upgrading it with a Eureka Mignon XL65! Can anyone advise if this would be a considerable improvement for the substantial extra expense. Any contributions much appreciated. Richard
  6. I am currently using a Rancillio Rocky (non-doser) which I've had over twelve years now. Excellent machine, faithful and reliable, over the years, but I'm now prepared that it won't last forever. Can anyone vouch for the 'Specialita' as a possible replacement / upgrade? Thanks folks.
