1. I am still having problems with this machine... As I wrote in my prevoius post the machine came with defect brewing group. This was fixed. Now I have another problem - the red lights are blinking after turning on. Tried fixing it as advised in the user manual - turn off, wait, turn on- nothing. I performed the testing and everything seems ok but one - no hot water from the steam tube. Somewhere I saw that there might be air in the system and this might be the problem. or maybe the boiler is gone... but the last seems not very probable - the machine is one month old. Any ideas how to solve this problem - maybe somehow reset or de scale... Any ideas are welcome! Thanks in advance!
2. Hello everybody, I just got a Gaggia Naviglio which I think has a problem. Unfortunatelly I cannot service and return it because I bought it from another country. So I will have to try to fix this problem with your help. The problem is as follows: When I unpacked the machine I went through the instructions at the manual and somehow the inital priming did not finish. The used coffee bin would not come out - it was blocked by the Brew Group (initially). Now I am able to make one cofee and then the door for the BG will open by itself and again the BG will not be in a neutral position (the two arrows pointing at each other). In this situation I can hardly remove the BG and the used coffee bin is again blocked. When I remove the BG and close the door and put back the bin, theere is a rotating sound ant after that I can put back the BG. The BG is just a few millimiters away from neutral position and there is a lever? pointing backwards... (pls see attached pics) And if I make a coffee somehow the BG's lower end pushes out the door to open. Sth else is interesting - there is almost no used coffee in the bin, but there is grinded coffee at the base - where the BG is inserted. Do you gyus have any ideas how to fix this issue. I am almost desparate because my wife and I love good coffee and so far every day was starting with a cup of coffee... And the old machine is gone... Any ideas are welcome plus I can answer any additional questions you might have. Thanks in advance! AT
3. It's time to sell my beloved Gaggia 'Tin Man' which is fairly identical to the La Pavoni Professional and uses pretty much the same parts as the Professional. Rumour has it they're made in the same factory and it is equivalent to a millenium/post millenium Pavoni being made after the year 2000. Overall it is in very good condition and shines up well! Included is a naked portafilter which I made myself - it's not to the same standard as a shop-bought item but for a home-made effort it does the job - I have also added a temp strip to the grouphead. I have also fitted a single-hole tip to the steam arm, this is one of the best upgrades you can do to these machines as the standard tip has 3 holes and is extremely difficult to manage. The machine was descaled a couple of months ago and hardly used since. There is no structural rust or rot under the drip tray - there's a speck of surface rust but that'll probably come away with a bit of elbow grease. The basket included is a double basket In the spirit of honesty, here are a few negligble points to note There are a couple of marks to the chromed boiler which are pictured. Due to the location of these I think its where milk has splashed onto the boiler and hasn't been cleaned off by the previous owner. When I bought the machine earlier this year, the dial for the pressure gauge was loose and had become detached from the gauge. I have since misplaced this, however between 10pm - 11pm on the gauge is around the right pressure for the machine (around 1 bar I think). A new gauge is readily available online and simply screws in. I noticed whilst cleaning it this evening that the plastic clip that attaches the base to the chassis has come loose. Again, it seems fine as it is and it's still attached to the chassis with the screw that goes into the area under the drip tray, but if the new owner wanted to, a new base is approximately £8 online I would prefer collection as these items are delicate. I won't rule out packaging up as secure as I can and posting, but I can't accept any responsibility for damage in transit i'm afraid. On the plus side, if collecting i'll demo the machine and make you a drink! I am looking for £330 collected from South Oxfordshire. I would have thought postage via Parcelforce would be around £15 but please bear in mind that this is not preferred and I can't accept liability for damage so the buyer bears the risk of this. 4. Hello everyone, Just looking for some advice as I purchased a Gaggia Classic 2nd hand and so don’t know if my machine is actually working properly or not. Since having it, I have descaled twice and cleaned the shower screen/group and this has improved the flow but not sure if it’s still enough? Also, haven’t backflushed as I don’t know if it’s ok to do so on my machine. My puck is a little soupy so don’t think I have the solenoid valve and therefore shouldn’t be back flushing anyway - if there’s a way to find out please let me know. Video of flow rate - Thanks in advance!
5. Hi from Warsaw, Poland to all users! I was lurking lot of coffee forums, but here the atmosphere is really friendly and users are experts! ::) I'm an experienced coffee lover, but newbie espresso fan. After googling I discovered home barista forums, blogs and found out that 100€ Delonghi machine will not provide me a proper espresso… "So I have just bought my new Gaggia Classic" Since few weeks I enjoy single espresso from ESE pods and think about most important device which is grinder. Second hand market of coffee grinders in Poland (where I live) is rather small and I don't want to buy used stuff without opportunity to see it before. So I want to buy a new one, a grinder that will help to learn make a proper espresso with a non-pressurized basket. My budget today is about 200-250 £. Next year, my budget for grinder would be about 600 £ So I have a choice, buy today some cheap (Graef) grinder, learn how to make espresso, and in few months upgrade. Or buy today Eureka and upgrade in let say 2 years. Do you think, Graef or Lelit will let me learn on non-pressurized basket, or in my case Macam M2M or Eureka Mignon is a must? In my local shop I have choice of: Graef CM 800 - 120 £ Lelit Fred PL043MMI - 170 £ Ascaso i-1 mini - 235 £ Rancilio Rocky SD - 240 £ Macap M2M - 255 £ Eureka Mignon (old ver) - 270 £

7. My old faithful Gaggia Classic had got far too scaled up. A lesson learned, use bottled water. It was time for a new coffee machine, but what to get. After much dilemma about whether a lever machine would be suitable or not, especially when I had guests, I decided against it. My wife decided for me that getting a new Gaggia would be a good idea as I had always been happy with my old one, until it died after lots of use. It seemed a good plan a slightly better machine was going to be lots more money, and lots bigger. The lever urge remained and a quick glance on ebay identified a pre millenium La Pav europiccola in my budget that would satisfy my needs. They both arrived today I have a few things to get, a 49mm tamper, some bottled water, a decent set of scales. I also think I will need to get myself a new grinder as I think the La Pav is going to show the weaknesses of my Iberital MC2. I may possibly get a decent hand grinder for the Pav if such a thing exists, reserach to be done. Anyway, here they are for now.

Group Gasket

I've never changed the group gasket on my Classic in the last 5 years due to intermittent use. Now i'm pulling 10-15 shots a week I'm wondering if i should change it? There's no leaking but original gasket does feel a bit tough, the portafilter locks at about 5 o'clock. If i do change should I go silicone? and why? Is this the boy I might need.... https://www.bluestarcoffee.eu/gaggia-silicon-group-gasket-85mm-7455-p.asp? Advice appreciated, many thanks.
9. Hi, Have been looking at buying an espresso machine and looking for some advice on the best entry level option. Our budget is around £500-£800. Currently we don’t own a machine at all, just use a bialetti moka pot, a milk frothing jug and a we have this Cuisinart grinder: https://www.johnlewis.com/cuisinart-dbm8u-auto-burr-coffee-grinder/p230858168?sku=230858168&s_kwcid=2dx92700044582398773&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIq72R75Dm4gIVmK3tCh28QgyxEAQYASABEgL2hvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Initially we were looking at something like the sage barista express: https://www.johnlewis.com/sage-barista-express-bean-to-cup-coffee-machine-with-milk-jug-stainless-steel/p3495241 but we’ve found quite a few bad reviews of these on amazon and are worried that they may be a pricey ‘style over substance’ option? As well as this the general consensus is that an integrated grinder is a bad idea (if it breaks it can’t be repaired and they don’t tend to be as good as a separate). Or is it the case that this might be fine for our needs and the online reviews/opinions can be taken with a pinch of salt? We aren’t really connoisseurs. One concern we have is the heat-up time on whatever we decide to go for. On weekends especially we tend to drink coffee throughout the day, so waiting 30 mins for a machine to heat up isn’t ideal… Having trawled through some forums the gaggia classic and rancilio silvia seem to be the most mentioned entry level machines for best ‘coffee shop’ results. We’ve been looking around though and have seen a few others that catch our eye (a lot of this is mainly down to aesthetics, as my girlfriend wants one that looks nice on the bench too): https://www.bellabarista.co.uk/brands/ascaso-versatile-dream-pid-polished-wood-5.html https://www.bellabarista.co.uk/brands/ascaso-versatile-dream-pid-polished-wood.html https://www.thecoffeemate.co.uk/p/refurbished-traditional-espresso-coffee-machine-lelit-anna-pl41tem/ https://www.thecoffeemate.co.uk/p/traditional-coffee-machine-lelit-grace-pl81t/ https://www.thecoffeemate.co.uk/p/coffee-machine-lelit-victoria-pl91t/ Does anyone have any experience with the ones above and how they compare with the gaggia classic or rancilio silvia? The ascaso ones in particular look very nice. Finally (and I think I already know what the response will be here) – should we think about getting a new grinder too? And any recommendations on those? Thanks in advance!
10. Hi all, I brought a Gaggia classic off eBay when starting out a month ago. However I think the seller had done a poor repair job as the steam handle is off centre and rubs on the casing. Indeed the whole steam tap is angled slightly towards the rear. I can't see how though as the boiler looks square. Anyone got a fix or has seen this problem before? I can't seem to get photos uploaded either. Yeah. Tim
11. I’ve just taken delivery of the service kit from The Espresso Shop to use on my recently acquired second hand Classic. Any tips on actually using this would be greatly appreciated, including how long it is likely to take.
12. Reposting as all the pictures seem to have disappeared from the original! I am selling my 5 year old Gaggia Classic, below, having recently up-caffeinated to a Rancilio Sylvia. I've used the Classic every day and had no serious problems. It has been regularly cleaned (but not back-flushed). Used with soft water only. I haven't fiddled with any of the settings and all the working parts are original, apart from the gasket and steam wand. (New Panarella wand fitted.) At one point it started leaking from the boiler, which I rectified by replacing the sealing washer - no problems since. Pump is a bit noisy. Steam/temperature lamp hasn't worked for a year but I get lots of steam, so it's probably just the lamp. I'd much rather sell it to someone who is happy to get into the innards if and when it needs fixing. Spare gasket included. Comes with original filter holder and naked holder. £100 including UK postage and it's yours. The proceeds are going to YMCA Roomsponsor (shameless charity plug here) so your coffee will taste twice as ethical. Make me an offer!
13. Hi all, So my last bag of beans where RAVEs Fudge Blend and while it was a lovely coffee like others I couldn't quite get the fudge notes so this time I'm thinking of trying Foundry Coffee Roasters RIO MAGDALENA - COLOMBIA as it sounds amazing. I had a small pouch of coffee beans a while back from a shop which had buttery notes and while I never thought that sounded great I absolutely loved that taste! So that along with chocolate, raisins and caramel just sounds bloody amazing! I was wondering though, has anyone got any ratios they want to throw in from past experience if I order these so I could try them out? I usually start on a 1:1 over 32 seconds or so and go from there. I've got a Gaggia Classic with Mr Shades PID and a Mazzer Super Jolly
14. Looking to sell my Gaggia Classic that I have owned for a couple of years now and has been faultless. I purchased this from this forum from Gaggiamanualservice who had completely refurbed and fitted with upgraded solenoid and steam wand. It has been descaled during my ownership. Unfortunately I no longer have the time (and work from home a lot less) so the machine is redundant. Looking for £100 plus post (should be £10-15).
15. struggling to find the right shot glass to fit under the gaggia classic
16. I have taken my Gaggia Classic apart so many times I have lost count. Every time in the past I have had great results but not this time. I replaced all the o rings, including the big one on the boiler. I have taken the solenoid mechanism apart, cleaned it as I know this is often the cause of problems. The pump is ok. When I reassembled the machine it starts and runs perfectly, water coming out the grouphead. But the moment I put coffee into the portafilter it runs for about 15 seconds and then the sound of the machine changes, becoming quite muted and coffee stops flowing. I can leave it running and sometimes after a few minutes the noise suddenly increases and coffee comes out. Attach another portafilter and back to the same muted sound and no coffee. It is as if when under load it cannot work. I have had this machine for years and have always managed to fix it but cannot this time. I am getting to the point where I will sell this fine piece of Italian engineering for something else🤬 regards Andre
17. Hi all, Up for sale is my Gaggia classic. This is the 2006 Italian model 1300W. I purchased this about 6 months ago second hand and immediately stripped, serviced and rebuilt it. It comes with the rancillo wand, one double basket (could do with replacing) portafilter (has end cap missing) When I stripped the machine I completely cleaned the boiler, replaced all seals, replaced both boiler and water thermostats, replaced the shower plate for a brass one, as well as the shower screen. I also set the pressure at 9bar using the pressure gauge from the group. Everything works as it should. I've literally only pulled about 10 shots from it since doing the service. Unfortunately I just don't have the time to use it daily so felt like it deserved a new home. Cosmetically it is in great shape for its age. It does have a slight leak from the wand but I'm sure this could be easily rectified. It comes with the original box. All in all, this is a great machine with many more years to offer since being fully serviced. I am happy to post or it can be collected from Suffolk. Postage method and cost can be discussed. £85 + postage
18. Recently I've got into the habit of pressing the Pour button on my Gaggia Baby (older version) just after frothing. This sends a burst of steam through the group head. Seems to me this helps clean the shower screen. Is this recommended or what?
19. As the title says really. Im doing my research and have read that there are some classics to avoid. I believe the early ones and the latest ones are the ones to go for? ideally I’d like a new or a mint second hand one but I’m a bit confused as looking on a website there are brand new ones being sold but they don’t look like the 2019 model. Looking second hand and some places don’t specify their age so don’t want to accidentally buy an undesirable model... if that makes sense?! could anyone point me in a direction or advise what to go for and what to avoid date wise? ps- a Rancilio Silvia is also on my radar Thanks
20. Hi all, I went to a Gaggia outlet yesterday so I could have a nose about. I have always shown an interest in the classic but the lady in the shop made me an espresso using the Brera and I found it rather nice. I’m now a little confused what to do as I had every intention on getting a classic or a Silvia and a half decent grinder but this has now thrown a spanner into the works due to its simplicity and cost. ideally I’d want to buy new and both machines are roughly the same price, obviously if I went for a classic then I’d need to get a grinder. Can anyone recommend the brera? And would the quality of the shot be much different from the classic? I know there are several factors that contribute to this but if we we talking using the same beans would I see much of a difference? Id like to add that I’m a bit of a coffee newb. I have a basic delonghi machine that produces shots that taste like they’ve been made through a sock. I’m not looking to be a barista, just want a decent espresso each day at a reasonable price. cheers
21. This is my 2nd Gaggia refurb. I detailed the first one here. For $65 CAD shipped to my door, there was no way I was going to turn this one down. I assumed it needed some love by the description of "it turns on and the the water heats up, but that's about it". It has the exact same internals as the Classic. Here it is, unpacked and ready to see what's wrong with it. Popping off the shower screen, it was pretty obvious why this machine wasn't doing anything. The holes in the shower plate were also clogged quite bad. All things considered, the boiler wasn't too bad. After a some scrubbing with small wire and brass brushes, a few cafiza and citric acid baths, most of the parts cleaned up nice. By hand, I used a 4mm drill bit to unclog the ingress and egress water holes on the group head. They were still plenty clogged. Now onto the over pressure valve. Unlike the classics that have a hex hole on the adjustment nut, this one required a set of needle nose pliers tips to fit into the outer sides of the nut. It was also seized quite bad and required several applications of penetrating fluid and some heat. This was probably the most stubborn part to deal with in the teardown. With everything cleaned up and now moving, I got it all back together and calibrated the over pressure valve. It was during the OPV calibration that I realized I had another problem to deal with. The integrated drain tube in the plastic housing was clogged quite badly which wasn't letting the water drain. This caused the pressurized water to spray everywhere instead of being sent down the integrated tube and out the front of the machine like it's supposed to. I didn't take any pictures of the unclogging process, but I had to take the whole shell apart and the unclog the drain pipe, which probably took about an hour of jabbing at it with a cut off wire coat hanger and some drill bits. The dried up coffee stuck in that thing was like cement. And now for a little sample of the machine running like it should. https://streamable.com/lvb6e This machine is going to live at my parents place, as my father has been quite envious of the quality of coffee coming out of my Classic. Now they can enjoy the same!

Thank You

Hi, I just wanted to thank the whole community on here. I stripped down my Gaggia classic to replace the boiler gasket and run into several problems when I put it all back together. I am very grateful for all the information stored in here by the community and how useful it all was in getting it up and running again. I now know my machine inside out too!
23. Gaggia Classic with Rancilio steam wand and OPV set to 9 bar Bought a couple of years ago on this forum from the chap who refurbishes them. I've since replaced the dispersion plate with a brass one and added an IMS shower screen. Backflushed after every shot and backflushed with pulycaff every other week. Regularly descaled although I'm not sure soft Yorskhire water warrants it. Comes with the following Original double portafilter Fairly new bottomless portafilter Single and double baskets Shot glasses New replacement gasket, which I haven't need to fit yet Plastic tamper (if you want it) Shot glasses I'm in Skipton, North Yorkshire and would prefer not to post. Happy to travel a reasonable distance to deliver or meet half-way.
24. Hi Guys, Very excited, have managed to score a used Gaggia Classic but it only came with the standard portafilter and pressurised baskets. I'm looking for: - Naked portafilter with double basket - Blind filter for blackflushing I know I can find them online but I'd much rather put my money in the hands of people on the forum. Many thanks in advance, Baristapprentice
