  1. I would appreciate some recomendation I have recently been really enjoying Rio Magdalena from the Foundary and I would like to sample some other roasters, as I have taken my inspiration from the roaster challenge. In terms of taste I love the chocolate and caramel favours, also I have recently purchased a naked portafilter and really trying to improve my tamping dosing and general technique to try and get the best coffee I can make. Thanks all
  2. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Coffee-Machine-Plus-Whole-Kit-Grinder-Knock-Out-Box-Etc-/231831408016 Interesting package. It may include a tamper (or is it Tapper?) and I really don't agree with his choice of grinder! Possibly a bargain for someone if they want to monitor it, but its just too big and too far away for me.

    Hi All

Names Peter and from Walsall, Been looking at getting a espresso machine and a grinder but could do with some advice. Have looked at few machines on line and have decided I would like one that allows me to make a drink and steam milk at the same time, I would also like to be to make a number of drinks from it like Espressos, Cappuccinos, Lattes, Flat whites so on. I will be using for home use and making around 1-5 drinks a day. The machine I have been drawn to so far is the Fracino cherub on myespresso.co.uk for £790 but is there better in the same range or is this a good machine for the money? Also is there a site anyone know of that is cheaper than myespresso? My other question than is grinders, Id be looking around £200 give or take for one of these, but really don't want it to be too large. Any advise is gratefully received as new to all this.
  4. Hi, I have decided to keep my 2 group commercial machine so up for sale I have my 4 month old Fracino Cherub that has seen very light use. Everything is in working order and comes in good condition, there are only a few small light scratches on the top of the cup tray and drip tray where cups and mugs have been resting. This is the new version of the Cherub with the updated drip tray, i also include a bottomless Fracino portafilter, the chrome on this item is peeling away and is very scratched but still obviously works. Comes with original box and paperwork which includes the rest of the 12 months warranty, collection from County Durham would be preferred but I am happy of you would like to organise a courier for pick up. Asking Price 450 o.n.o or would consider swapping for a decent on-demand grinder Any questions let me know, oh and the steam wand has the 4*1 mm hole tip. 5. Having bought Jon’s Rocket last week, it’s time for me to sell my Cherub. This is one of the early models but is a fantastic entry in to HX machines. Mechanically it’s in excellent condition, working perfectly with no known faults or issues. I recently dismantled it having had what transpired to be an airlock in the HX pipes, and was pleasantly surprised with the fact that there was no limescale whatsoever. I have been running it on Brita filtered water, but also descaled regularly. Cosmetically it’s a nice tidy machine, with just a few age related marks, the worst being a chip and small dent in the back corner. Obviously the drip tray and top surface are also scratched, but these are just as expected from a used machine. The cap for the water tank is showing signs of wear to the “plastic chrome” finish. These machines are very heavy, and I don’t have suitable packaging so it’s collection only I’m afraid, from east Kent. I’m looking for £275 please. Thanks Simon
  6. Hi guys, It seems on my fracino cherub the pressure goes in "cycles" where it reaches 1 bar then slowly drops down to .5 or so over 30 seconds, then the element kicks in and it raises to 1 bar again. Is this normal? See video here for a closer look (please ignore the sound its the missus playing fable 2 in the background, I dont have a collection of odd sounding slaves, I promise) If it has any effect at all the kitchen window nearby is open a crack and theres only 3 cups on the cupholder if that affects heat leeching.
  7. What can I say other than I have received some of the best service ever from Peter at http://espressounderground.co.uk/ I ordered my Fracino Cherub from him and he has been amazing at answering questions in the most silliest fastest of times, even very late in to the evening. (Like after 11PM....wow) Great prices, great service all from a extremely knowledgeable and nice guy. Will be buying more items from him :good: Thomas.

  10. Hi, I am in the market for a Fracino Cherub if anyone is selling one please! My budget is circa £350.
  11. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=251886565762 £260 ONO. Seems like a decent deal, sounds like it needs a bit of work though.
  12. So I have finally gathered enough money for a new grinder, and i'm a bit suck in which one to get. I have been looking at second hand commercials, and that is probably the best option. Just that the damn things get snatched up so fast! I've been looking at the Mignon too but it seems very messy and clumps a lot (is clumping really a problem?). I've also seen a lot of Mazzer Super Jollys for around £250-300 but from what i've heard I can get just as good quality from a new Mignon So, any advice and tips around the £300 price range? If someone finds a good condition La Cimbali Magnum for £300 let me know
  13. After the sale of our Rancilio Silvia we are now wanting to purchase a Fracino Cherub. Anyone got any they are willing to sell or can recommend a good site with good prices? Thanks
  14. As a few of you will know, I bought my Gaggia a year or so ago. Following a packet of beans as part of a Christmas present I found coffee Forums as part of my quest to buy a grinder. A Eureka Migon later and a huge step up in coffee enjoyment got me frustrated with the time required to produce two milk based coffees. Queue my next upgrade: a better espresso machine. Much as I would love to buy a Londinium or a fancy Italian design I struggle to justify the cost and with so much positive praise on here for Fracino, the decision was either a Heavenly or a Cherub. Our kitchen is a mix of oak fronted units with black granite worktops. My wife isn't keen huge areas of shiny metal and I would like the facility of hot water on demand for heating cups or producing tea at the same time as coffee. Thus, the choice was made for go for a Cherub with the standard black sides. We bought our machine through Espresso Underground. I'm always keen to offer praise where praise is due and Peter (at EU) has been excellent. He's been very approachable, friendly and his prices have been very competitive. Last Monday I ordered the unit and Peter said it could take up to ten days to arrive. He did say that the courier company that Fracino use could be troublesome but that this was outside his control. On Thursday, on her way back from the shops, my wife noticed a white delivery van outside our house. The driver was on his mobile and a nice big Fracino box was on our doorstep. We weren't in and the driver was phoning head office asking what to do. In this day and age, courier companies can notify a recipient with a one hour wide slot. This has to be a more convenient and cost effective approach than simply turning up and possibly having to come again several times. Anyway, the delivery driver kindly carried the unit inside and it was left for me to install over the weekend. As the picture shows, it's a pretty decent box which is attached to a solid pallet. Given the weight (about 24Kg), the pallet is necessary. The box is solidly made and properly sealed with Fracino tape. The whole is then strapped on to the pallet. The unit sits nicely inside the box with polystyrene packaging around the outside. The machine is inside a large plastic bag and can be lifted out reasonably easily once the side packaging is removed provided the purchaser is reasonably strong. For the less able, it may prove a little awkward on account of the weight. It's a shame that polystyrene is used for packaging. It's perfectly fit for purpose but not especially recycle friendly. This, however, is a minor point. The machine is fully pre assembled with the exception of the portafilter. This comes in a box which sits on the drip tray. Also contained with this box is a pair of baskets and a blank basket for back flushing. There is a metal spoon for coffee and a plastic tamper. For most neither of these latter items will be used. They are a step above the offering that came with the Gaggia but not by far. This isn't a big deal as it makes no sense to pay over the odds for something which will probably be replaced with a better unit anyway. The unit is stunning in its look. It is beautifully painted with a rich black fleck paint finish to the back and sides while the front and top are stainless steel. Most of the stainless steel surfaces are covered in a protective plastic coating. This protects the surface during manufacturing and transportation. It appears to withstand laser cutting and, for this reason is as tough as nails and equally difficult to remove. Removing it from the drip tray is relatively easy provided you can find an edge with a nail and gradually pull it off. The top surface is more difficult. In the end I removed the top plate (four allen screws) and took it off starting at the corners (which would otherwise be hidden within the frame of the unit). One of my biggest concerns was the size of the unit. While the websites give dimensions and weight its still pretty difficult to sense how big something will be in its working environment. With this in mind, I have taken a few pictures and those people who are aware of the size of a Gaggia Classic or a Eureka Mignon can use this to get some idea of how much room it will take up on a suitably robust work surface. Limit of four pictures per post, please be patient, more will follow:
  15. Hi all, ive been reading the forums now for a few months but i never do post much. what im planning on is picking up a standard fracino cherub and a black abs piccino grinder (from what i understand its a rehoused MC2 but it looks a lot nicer) from espressounderground but i cant find out if i need to buy anything else or just the 2 items, i.e. does it come with a stock basket?, portafiller? i plan on just using things as stock but ive heard a lot about a 2 hole wand for the cherub and a VST basket is tempting i currently have a baby gaggia dose 06 with the silvia wand that looks a bit beat up but other then the wand holder inside the unit snapping it works great but lacks the capaciy for steam and struggles to make more then one drink. i have a 58mm knock tamper and 3 different sized milk jugs with a temptag attached (i love the thing) anything else that is an absolute must have as convincing the wife has been hard enough let alone telling her i need another £XXX of extras may delay the purchase yet again. i already plan on buying a couple of kilos of supermarket beans to use up until the burrs have settled and ive dialed in the grinder before ruining a fresh batch of beans. there is only one last small hurdle and if thats all cleared i should be ordering tomorrow.
  16. Only been drinking coffee for the last 18 months and enjoying the use of the bean to cup machine at work. Looking at getting a decent machine for home use. Trying to persuade the wife that a Fracino Cherub will look nice in the new kitchen. Robb
  17. This new set up is providing me with a near-constant supply of quality coffee and saving me a great deal of money on visits to the cafe. The Cherub (and milk jug) were kindly supplied by @coffeebean for very competitive prices.
  18. Hi all! I bought my first serious espresso machine, Cherub. I was on a low budget pressurized portafilter "espresso machine" earlier for a few years, but then it stopped heating. So it was time for a new one. First I did not want to spend too much on new machine, but later saw that this is not a low budget hobby. So I overspend a little bit and got meself a cherub. Now I'm affraid that I'll not now how to use it properly. I know a few things about espresso and am looking forward to using it (have not recieved it yet), but don't really know what should look at when the machine arrives, that everything is working ok. What is that pressure meter on the machine for? Pressure in boiler? Why does this machine has pressure to 2 bar and others have up to 12 bar and similar? what's the use od these barometer? I will be using my machine for arround 3 coffees per day, how often should I descaled it? It is a HX machine, does it need to be backwashed when cleaning? what are main check ups and repair in one year period of using the machine for example 2-3 times a day? anyway, if you have any general advice or guidence plese share. Thanks
  19. We have an outdoor cafe attached to our bike shop. It's not insulated and so, as winter approaches, the night-time temperature is starting to dip below freezing inside the cafe! Could anyone give me advice regarding our Fracino Cherub machine as I understand it could potentially be damaged if the water in the machine freezes? It's not plumbed in so one option would be to bring the machine inside our main building overnight (where the temp is more likely to stay above freezing) but that would be a bit of a pain. Or would it be sufficient to insulate the machine with a jacket made from the stuff you use for cladding a boiler/hot water pipes? I can't be the only person with this scenario but am struggling to find much advice online! I think daytime usage is fine even if the ambient temperature is below zero because the machine is warmed up. It's the nights I'm worried about. Thanks in advance!
  20. Wooooo new Fracino Forum! And First post in the new Fracino forum! Feel free to ask any questions you might have about the Cherub here. I'm sure one of the numerous owners on the forum will be able to answer.
  21. Hi all, I'm a newbie to the forum but have been lurking for a while. I have always enjoyed good quality coffee and am now looking to buy a decent home set up that will serve me well and last for years to come. I'll be drinking straight espresso 90% of the time, with my wife requesting the odd latte / cappuccino etc. For months and months I have been doing research into machines and grinders - with a view to spending my money wisely. My head is hurting I've read so many reviews and watched so many demos! I've chosen my grinder - Mazzer Super Jolly. It seems to be almost the industry standard, that I won't go far wrong with. However the choice of espresso machine is driving me up the wall. I can spend an absolute max of £1000 on the machine alone, but would preferably spend a lot less... My choices so far are as follows: Rancilio Silvia v3 (£400 - well reviewed / well liked / reliable / I would probably install pid) Isomac Zaffiro (£700 - very well reviewed in terms of straight espresso quality - E61 head - but concerns over reliability?) Fracino Cherub (£700 - well reviewed but caters more towards steam? - doesn't look quite as good imo) The Silvia has been around for so long and has had such consistently good reviews that I wonder whether a novice such as myself would actually notice much difference from a higher end machine? (especially with £300 difference) I will probably only make 3/4 shots per day and a few milk drinks at the weekend. The machine will be lightly used and well looked after. I'd be happy to listen to any other options. Work top space is not a major issue. If there's a £900 outstanding machine with an emphasis on straight espresso please let me know! Equally gut instinct tells me Miss Silvia would serve me well. Many thanks for your advice Will
  22. Hello... Just stumbled across a Fracino Cherub on ebay for £350 buy it now... please note this is not my machine and neither does it belong to anyone I know... Thought I would point it out in case someone was looking for a new machine at a bargain price... it's an HX machine by the way... Mods - Please feel free to delete this post if this post if I have not kept to the rules...
  23. Hello! As the title says I joined this forum quite a while back around the time I was shopping for my first decent espresso machine. Have found some really useful information on here so just wanted to say thanks for all the informative threads. I started off with a Gaggia Factory Lever which was great, when I got it right but it was a very hit and miss affair. I've since upgraded to a Ponte Vecchio Lusso 2 group which I've had much more consistent results with. I find the small shot size a bit of a problem with this though and faffing around with both groups in the morning isn't ideal as I'm quite pressed for time when I get up. Also the seals are a pain to get get to for maintainence. So... I'm now eyeing up the Fracino Cherub as yet another upgrade. It looks like it might suit my needs a bit better. This seems to be one of the few forums that discusses these machines, it all appears to be positive from what I can tell. I was wondering if the consensus is still that these are a good buy. Fracino have a discount on these at the moment so very tempted to go for it.
  24. Finally got everything I need to start making proper coffee! Eureka Mignon grinder, milk jug and thermometer, Motta Tamping Stand Kit, and the Fracino Cherub. It's currently warming up, so I'll be pulling my first shot in the not too distant future. Wish me luck

    SOLD Fracino Cherub

Owned from new (April 2010). In very good condition (the pictures below are of the item for sale). I've only ever used filtered water. Includes two portafilters (1 single, 1 double). £350 collected. You'll need to collect from Folkestone, Kent. The Cherub weighs 22 kilos, and it's also impossible to fully empty the boiler for transportation, so using a courier would be problematic. This is the first item I've sold on this forum, but I have a 100 per cent positive rating on eBay, with more than 350 pieces of feedback (I can provide a link to my eBay feedback on request). Reason for sale: I've been unwell for some time and unable to manage my "proper" coffee routine, so I've moved to the Dark Side (capsule machines). Payment by cash on collection or by BACS prior to collection, whichever suits the buyer. Any questions, fire away.
