1. So this year (well last month in fact) I bought my first home. Finally able to drill holes and plump in the beast! Expobar Dual Boiler Rotary (plumnbed) Mazzer Super Jolly with 320g Hopper Made by Knock 58.3mm Tamper IMS baskets and shower screen
2. Hi Everyone I'm selling my coffee machine due to my wife starting to drink coffee and thus us needing to have a more simple machine for her to use. I'm sure i'll be back at some time in the future but for now, I can move this machine on. It's a dual boiler, PID control of the brew boiler, pressurestat control of the steam boiler. Mains water and tank - I've tried both and have used this routinely with filtered water. Bella Barista serviced the machine and also fitted a new PID back in Apr 18, the old PID was occasionally shutting off, but now all in perfect working order. They inspected the boilers and pipework for any scale and gave it a full bill of health. I regularly descale it using citric acid. Comes with 1 portafilter handle, 3 baskets, rubbish plastic tamper (came with it!) and a waste water plumb in kit. There is also a spare filter with it for the internal tank. There are a few scratches as can be seen in the photos and the drip tray lid is used - but as to be expected really. Really great machine, makes lovely coffee and is ideal as a decent starter into the world of 58mm portafilter dual boilers. Also fitted with a rocket no-burn steam wand with twin hole tip. It's a great steamer. Currently retailing for around £1250, I'm asking for £600 please. I am based in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Don't want to post it. Too heavy and breakable. I do travel across the east midlands quite a bit so could meet up too I expect. Thanks If you need to see any more spec take a look at https://www.bellabarista.co.uk/brands/expobar-leva-dual-boiler-coffee-machine-reservoir-plumb-in.html.
3. Hi guys and gals, I have just upgraded from a Francis Francis X1 to an Expobar G10 compact (which makes my X1 look like it belongs in a dolls house!). I got a bit of a bargain on eBay and the machine works great, and seems to be well matched to my Mahlkonig / Baratza Vario, but the portafilters, one single spout one double spout, are pretty beaten up and the baskets are 1x7g and 1x14g. I went in to this purchase pretty blind, and didn't actually realise this machine works from an Expobar proprietary grouphead and not an E61, so treat me as clueless and you'll be not far from accurate! I'm therefore looking for advice and recommendations. I don't have a tamper of the right size yet so, please shut your ears, I'm using a plastic tamp!......but it's for good reason - I want to get a portafilter, basket and tamper that all work well together. If I'm measuring correctly the current portafilter ears have a depth of around 6.2-6.3mm and the basket has an internal diameter of 59.5-60.0mm. The portafilters are angled from the machine so that when placed on a flat surface the top of the basket is flat. So, for the (many!) questions: Is there in general anything I should be looking out for? Does anyone know what the actual depth of ears is that I should be looking for / does 6.2 or 6.3mm actually make any difference? Are there any other brands that are a direct match for Expobar? I've seen that there are straight and 15' angled (LM style) options - is this just preference and either would work? Does anyone have any specific portafilter recommendations - I'm after 1x 2 spout 16-18g and 1x bottomless 21(ish) g? Torr Toys look good - any advice? Once I've bought portafilters I'm after some half decent baskets - IMS seems to be the reference. Any particular type? VST seems to be less common? Happy to leave the tamper recommendations out of the equation for now but interested to keep options open based on portafilters & baskets and know what width to go for. Thank you in advance - the knowledge you guys have is amazing, and appreciated.
4. Can someone please list some parts that typically need to be replaced on an Expobar Office Control? I live in North Africa, where I recently bought a used Expobar Office Control. It's working well, but I'm sure it will need some spare parts eventually. As parts are hard to come by in my location, I'd like to buy a few spares during a trip to the U.K. in December. Thank you very much.
5. I'm cleaning up a used Expobar Office Control and am thinking I'd like to insulate the boiler. I like what I see here: #3 For those of you who've insulated a boiler on an HX machine of this size, have you noticed any downsides? I'm concerned about unforeseen consequences. Thank you.
6. After giving my machines group head a full descaling and finding it in a pretty gruesome state, I decided my next task was to give the boiler a full descale. Maybe a little over-enthusiastically I opted for this method where you overfill the boiler. . It all went well – removing the level probe connection, filling the boiler with dezcal and the heat exchanger, leaving it for an hour, running several litres of clean water through the system. Then I hit a problem at the end. The last step where I had reconnected the water level probe and switched on the machine to heat it up to expel the excess water through the hot water tap. During this process, I found a lot of water was pushed out and there were minerals in the water (not sure if relevant). I don’t recall the pump coming on (I may be incorrect) and then as water was being pushed out the circuit breaker tripped the plugs in the house!!! As there was some water on the internals from the process mentioned above (from the pressure release valve) which they said was normal from overfilling it. I assumed something got wet and best to let it dry out I have now left the machine for about 18 hours and it seems dry but switching on the machine trips the house electricity instantly as you flick the switch. I am going to wait overnight (say a little prayer) and see in it works in the morning - I am doubtful. Anyway, any thought as to what might have happened to cause the machine to trip like that? Is there a safety mechanism that may be causing it. Could have something to do with the pump or maybe the boiler not being filled? I am at a bit of a loss as to how to debug it. Any help welcome? thanks Peter
7. After using my Bean to Cup machine, I want something more advanced, better, essentially a proper espresso machine. I would like a controllable PID for the brew temps, and the Expobar caught my eye (mainly because it seems a very reasonable price). Am I picking a good machine? Should I go more expensive for any reason? Sorry I might be a little vague here, I'll let my thoughts out aloud; - I want a dual boiler (I suppose is directly related to my third point here) - I much prefer the "Rocket Appartamento" style of design rather than the "Profitec 300" style of design, hence picking the Expobar - Although I might not use the controllable PID to start with, I know will want it once I am more experienced, hence picking a machine with it That's as much as my knowledge takes me to. More than happy for people to question me to help guide me, if someone thinks I may have not thought it through correctly/thoroughly enough. This will not be an imminent purchase, much more likely to be towards mid next year at the very earliest. But I like to plan ahead, and hopefully if I start this thread now, I can collate all the necessary information to help me once the time comes. I would love to rush out and buy one yesterday, however it's simply not possible for a few reasons
8. Can someone help me identify this machine? Any info appreciated. Thanks in advance, Matias
9. This is an advert for my recently replaced espresso machine. I bought it new from BellaBarista on Jan 4 2013 (I still have the receipt). It suffered a leaking relief valve in 2015, which was replaced and throughout its life has been regularly de-scaled and cleaned. Otherwise I have had no problems with it. It has delivered around 3000 espressos in its time with me and provided an excellent follow-on from a Gaggia that I had used before treating myself to a retirement present. A slippery slope. Initially I used (Brita) filtered water and then moved over to Volvic bottled water. The item has had a thorough service and inspection at BB, there is a receipt for all the work carried out, which will transfer to the new owner. The pump was replaced, alongwith the group head gasket and the shower screen plus a full service of the group head itself. It is now as-new, minor wear from use excepted. It comes with The (somewhat amusing) Expobar instruction manual, plus the excellent BB-written detailed instructions on use and maintenance. A single portafilter with double and single baskets and a blind filter for backflushing A tamper Cleaning brush I will accept offers based on £600, which will include P&P (UK ONLY, I am afraid) from BB in Wellingborough. The purchaser could collect from BB if preferred. BB cannot demonstrate the machine though. Here are the pictures (apologies for the odd orientation, it was hard to double guess what the uploader was going to do)
10. Looks in decent nick and saying only home use? Good price if so. https://www.gumtree.com/p/coffee-machines/expobar-leva-dual-boiler-coffee-machine/1254050720

12. I'm not sure which thread but i seem to remember someone mentioning the prospect of pressure profiling on a Brewtus by adjusting the OPV during extraction. So for you more experienced Brewtus users I ask: - Has anyone tried playing with adjusting the OPV during extraction? - How low can the OPV go without risking damage? - What else should be considered if you're planning on doing it? - Should I even bother with trying?
13. OK, this is now driving me crazy. I'm an impatient guy and need to get a new espresso machine to replace my cheap, now broken, machine. I had purchased a machine on here, but that fell through as it developed a fault. I have a wanted ad for an Expobar Dual Boiler / something similar, but it seems these machines don't come up that often. I'm thinking of going for new, but that doesn't put much in my budget range (£800). So I'm thinking of upping the budget to cover an Expobar Dual Boiler from Bella Barista; this would be on a credit card so not a general budget for used items. I can't make myself wait for a couple of months to have the cash available and/or for the right thing to come up second hand. I've pretty much discounted getting something from abroad (ie from Italy / NL etc), as I'd like the reassurance of a UK distributor plus the advice / 'training' from Bella Barista sounds like a good idea. A new Expobar Dual Boiler is 1285 from Bella Barista (the reservoir only is 1185, but out of stock). Within my range and in stock they also have Bezzera BZ10, ECM Heidelberg Barista, Rocket Plus PID. The other machines are HX and my preference is for the Expobar. Am I wrong / crazy to be thinking of buying new? The alternative is to get something cheap (£2-400) and wait for something to come up s/hand and then sell on. But of course, I still have to wait for that and then sell/buy as well. Reading this back, I've not really asked much of a question but just generally looking for opinions before I spend lots of money!
14. Hi all, I have a minor issue with my Expobar and was wondering if anyone would care to recommend a mobile technician who covers south east London. TIA Greg
15. I am selling my Expobar Brewtus IV (aka Office Leva). Double boiler, rotary pump, plumb only. In good condition, some scratches on drip tray. It's a 2013 model I bought it in March this year, it was used lightly in a commercial setting for 1 year (grinder that came with it had 800 shot count), they sold it as coffee wasn't selling. I have used it daily for 2-3 espresso. Only been used with bottled water (I cant plumb it in). It's been backflushed with calypuff. Comes with naked portafilter and regular pf. Double basket and whiteyj's 3d printed pf holder. I am selling as I have started using my classic with PID again and finding it's making shots just as good as the Brewtus (might be my skills) I only drink espresso so a double boiler is really overkill. I got this at a decent price so willing to sell for £750. No offers. Collection only from Glasgow as it is too heavy to courier. 16. I have around £500 to spend on a machine and before I take the plunge on a new machine I would be interested in a decent quality used one must have original box and be willing to post Thanks in advance
17. Hello again, So, I received my new Leva DB yesterday evening and seem to be having some issues with getting the Brew Boiler up to temp. The PID has been set at 92, but I cant get the temp past 65. When the machine was turned on for an hour to heat up, the temp displayed on the PID only rose to about 35 and when I ran the pump constantly the temp eventually crept up to 65, but no higher. Tried it again this morning and left it to heat for 45 minutes but the temp displayed on the PID was only 19... Tried resetting the PID a couple of times but this made no difference. Could it be something to do with the Temp Limit Switch on the boilers themselves or a dodgy PID? Any ideas? Cheers
18. Hi All, I purchased this in June 2015 from Bella Barista, it is the plumbed/tanked version but I have only used the reservoir with bottled water. I used it quite a lot to start, but then I moved house at the end of last year and have never really got back into it and am drinking brewed pretty much exclusively now. Will have a year of warranty from Bella Barista assuming that it transfers. Always back flushed with water & puly caf regularly. I also have a Eureka Mignon MKI for sale, a Rocket naked portafilter with 15g & 18g VST baskets + stock basket. Also a Made by Knock 58mm tamper, knock box & mat. Plus some other bits and bobs that'll get included with the Expobar. If you're quick, I've just opend a kg of Rave's signature blend that I'll throw in! To start with, I'll offer this as the Expobar +/- whatever the buyer wants from the rest and if there is anything remaining, I'll sell the rest afterwards. Price is £1050 for everything, collected from High Wycombe HP15. This thing is a beast, so would rather not post! Will drive to meet up, but face-to-face preferred. Obviously make an offer if you only want the Expobar +/- bits. For clarity, the following a priocs for machine + other bits: Machine + Everything = £1050 Machine Alone = £850 Machine + Grinder = 1000 Machine + naked portafilter + VST baskets = £900 Cheers, Mike
19. I'm thinking it's an Expobar leva dual boiler? Anyone confirm? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111927609938?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
20. So I finally got to decaling the brewtus and foolishly thought it would be easy. I had the idea of syphoning the descaler in and out after a few hours before flushing. In my mind this would have been a lot quicker and easier than running the pump. Turns out I couldn't get he wrench on anything and even if I could I wouldn't have been comfortable with removing anything on there. Can anybody give me a tip here? What's easiest and best to remove? I was thinking the manometer fitting on the brew boiler and temp probe on the steam boiler, but could go for the vacuum breaker too. Also, I was going to up steam pressure while I had it open but it doesn't seem to want to turn. Clockwise to up the pressure? Does it have something on it to prevent it from turning (that will cause it to break if forced?). UPDATE: It turned out to be easy. I got a pair of grip pliers onto the silver nut which sits against the boiler (first picture front left) and put a small adjustable wrench on the brass nut. It turned off easily enough and the little brew manometer tube moved over to the side to allow access straight down into the boiler. There was no sealant on the threads to worry about replacing. I used a basic syphon tube from wilko with a straw shoved into the tap that came with it (the tube is a little too big to fit into the boiler). You could simply suck all of the water out through a straw if you don't have a syphon tube. An alternative is to use the teflon tubes that connect to the pump as they fit in the little hole too. I drained the steam boiler through the tap. After reconnecting the manometer I ran some descaler through the whole thing (steam tap, wand and brew head, with a backflush just to be sure the manometer gets the treatment) and I'm now sitting here waiting for a couple of hours to drain it.
21. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251253894040?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Thanks Dave
22. Pondered, saved, pondered some more and finally bit the bullet and ordered the Expobar and Mignon. I have been Mokka pot aficionado for over 30 years, what can I say the difference is amazing, wished I'd done this years ago! Great machine, looked at a Rocket but glad I went for this. Build quality is solid if a little unfinished, de'burring the edges of panels would be nice as would actually attaching the UK plug (is that even legal?) Minor gripes though. Very Happy!
23. Hi all I've been lurking for a while on the site and have found it very useful to help make my decision to upgrade from my Silvia to a brand new shiny expobar dual boiler. Seems like the best value dual boiler out there from what I can tell - I'd love to go a step higher to the R58 or QM verona, but not sure I can really justify the extra expense. Anyway, I've been researching the best places to buy and bella barista had until now come top of the list - basically the cheapest UK supplier and glowing feedback from everyone that's bought from there. However, today I stumbled upon a Dutch site called Casa Barista who are offering it significantly cheaper (around €1325 including postage, which equates to £1000, so almost £200 less than BB). The two models are exactly the same as far as I can tell (apart from the name Brewtus v Leva). Just wondered if anyone had any experience with Casa Barista before I part with my cash? I've emailed them a couple of questions so far and they've responded quickly and seemingly knowledgable, but haven't been able to find any feedback about them online, and their website isn't the most professional!
24. New shiny, just finished making the surrounds for my splashbacks so thought I'd post a pic. The grinder is at the other side of the kitchen and the pics aren't so good so I'll just post the expobar for the now. Loving using the equipment and I've made a few decent espresso and coffees so far but not with great consistency, when I get back from my next job I'll be trying to dial it all in properly. So far about 16g in for 22 seconds has given me a good coffee with a blend from Rodney at BB which was enjoyed. Going for something a bit sweeter next...
25. Hi, I'm sure this must be here somwhere but I can't find it. I'd like to know how to reset the PID to its factory default - just in case I mess it up whilst playing with the programming. TIA, Tim.
