  2. Hi Folks....just joined and wanted to say Hi! I'm a Brit living near Houston, Texas and wanted to join this forum for some more balanced views! I've just started my coffee / espresso journey and have a Quamar M80E grinder and Quick Milll Vetrano 2B espresso machine on the way......hope to have by early December. I didn't realise it would be so difficult to decide on a grinder and espresso machine......it took me weeks of research and thanks in part to some of the threads I found on here, I finally made my choice. In the US it seems to be trickier to get hold of certain machines. There are 2 or 3 main players who seem to control things over here (in terms of exclusive deals with certain suppliers) and they always seem to be out of stock of the things you want...very frustrating! The voltage difference is also a pain! Anyway...I hope to contribute to this forum as I go, as well as learn from others. Stuart
  3. For sale is my Quick Mill Anita. Comes with double shot portafilter (no single unfortunately). Used with bottled water only, in great condition apart from the front right leg is a little bent due to transportation. Really only drink filter these days and I'm moving house so I guess we could use the funds for something a little more appropriate... Like a new bed... or a chair... Sigh. Has been a great machine - really good at bouncing back after multiple drinks, lots of headroom with the steam and can pull shots whilst steaming without issue. Looking at collection only from Newcastle as my experience with posting coffee machines has never been positive. Can deliver within a suitable radius for a fee i.e. 50 miles being the max, or meet at a halfway point if the price is right. On eBay for £650, but happy to take £550 cash to people on here. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask and I'll do my best. Jonny --phone number removed--
  4. Hi All, Have recently agreed a couple sales for machines off the forum, one of which is to replace the machine currently at work. This is that machine. Its a Sage DTP, in good condition, currently fed bottled Ashbeck, previously Volvic. Cleaned regularly after use, and backflushed regularly (using the disc and occasionally tablets). It has no warranty, but has caused me no issues and has never had a fault. Its had an easy life, making no more than 5 doubles a week for the last 18 months while at work, previous to that it would've made approximately 10 a week. Its got some general marks from day to day use, mostly on the drip tray as expected. But nothing out of the ordinary. There are no dents or damage. The only other mark I can pick up is on the face of the machine, ive tried to photo this, but is not obvious, however, I've used a torch and flash on camera to try and bring this out as much as possible (it therefore looks worse in the pictures IMO). Comes with the standard 4 Sage baskets (2 single and 2 doubles - pressurised and non). Sage cleaning tablets, backflush blanking plate, Milk Wand Cleaning Tool and the Sage Razor. Ive never used two of the baskets or Razor. Ideally collection is preferred, however, I will box up and post if someone wants to arrange a courier. This will be at buyers risk and cost. I'm asking **£150**. Any questions, please ask.
  5. For sale is my Sage Barista express. less than a year old, complete with all accessories including portafilter, single and double baskets, cleaning tools, Sage Razor, tamper, milk jug and original box. Excellent condition as shown in pics. Collection from Middlesbrough area. £350
  6. Hello, For a sale Expobar Brewtus IV (tank/vibra)verison. Bought in August 2015 in original packing and with everything that came with it: - portafilter - filter basket (single and double) - blind filter. It is 230V/240V version with schuko plug (germany, italy, austria, swiss etc). For UK it is just need a 3pin uk adapter. Machine was regularly maintained and always used with water softener. If you have any additional questions let me know and i am able to send any additional pictures. Joystick are sold. I did apply the original. I'm ready to sell it for £750 + postage (I pay half the price of postage). 30.7 update: New price £750 postage included (without joystick, but with original) 5.8.update: price reduced £725 (without joystick, but with original) SOLD!
  7. Londinium L1. Used by us as a demo machine over the last year or so but recently replaced by the new Londinium R. The machine is in excellent condition although there are the usual little scuffs and scrapes that you'd expect. We've tried to show these in the photos. As you would expect, the machine has been well maintained and we only recently serviced the lever, replaced seals etc. The machine is fitted with an IMS screen. This particular example is the tanked version - of course the plumb kit can be purchased if needed but we wanted to maintain the ability to move the machine around easily if we needed to. Collection preferred from our city centre cafe in Sheffield. Alternatively, we would consider delivering the machine within 50 miles for a nominal cost. Price is £1400 +VAT so a great deal if you can use the machine within a VAT registered business.
  8. Hello, up for a sale Izzo Alex Duetto MK IV July 2015 bought from Italy in original packing and with everything that came with new: It is 220V with option to power up both boilers at once (not like 110v which they heat up exchangeably) but it has a schuko plug (germany, italy, austria, swiss etc) so for UK you you just throw on a 3pin uk plug. 2 portafilter 4 steamtips Tamper + brush Cover Before I bought i was literally scouring the web probably for an year what is the best kit of equipment to get and the Duetto was the end decision, it really served me extremely good and i would never sell it if upgraditis wouldn't kicked in If everything plays out i am getting a linea mini instead. I have changed the gicleur (waterjet) in the grouphead mushroom for 0.5mm (0.7mm stock) to obtain the best possible water flow. Machine was really taken care off and always clean, i always used filtered water + addition water oscar softeners. Never had an issues, never had a single leakage. Always had a really nice shoot. I am willing to ship it all over the world with split shipping charge (let me know where you want it to be shipped and i will cover half of the shipping) If you have any additional questions let me know and i am able to send any detailed photos that you want to see. I am even able to drive it in the region of lets say 500km (350 miles) if youre from neighbouring countries (croatia, italy, germany, austria, hungary, Czech republic, slovakia). I will take paypal, revolut, bank transfer, basically whatever floats your boat. I am willing to let it go for 1220£ shipped Thank you!
  9. Hi guys, I recently bought the Iberital MC2 to use with my flatmate's delonghi treviso espresso machine. I've been playing for a couple of weeks now with some nice beans from Drury in Covent Garden and the espresso is tasting pretty good, generally quite smooth but perhaps not as strong as it could be? I'm still fairly new to drinking espresso so in a way I'm not sure what to aim for but I'm learning all the time. I've made a short video of how I make my espresso. I'd appreciate if any of you can have a look and tell me where I'm going wrong! I know the tamper is crap and plastic, I'm hoping to get a Silvia soon so I don't really want to spend money on a nice one that isn't going to fit a new machine. Here's the video link:
  10. My favourite espresso machine is the Ascaso Dream it is a great design that graces my kitchen worktops with elegance, I love it. It makes fantastic espressos for me and the misses’ morning, noon and night. I have had it for a year now and wouldn’t be without it. I have really only got into espresso after going on holiday to Rome now that’s how to enjoy a coffee in the morning at the bottom of The Spanish Steps watching the crowds go by. Which is your favourite espresso machine?
  11. Does anybody know of a timer switch that can be used on a 32Amp point (commando socket) or some kind of relay switch that can be used for an espresso machine? I want to have my machine switch on 15 mins before I arrive at my shop- leaving it on all night seems a waste of power.
  12. Hi all, Can anyone help we have got the above machine, but it is missing the program key, has anyone got one or does anyone know where we can get one, & anyone who services these machines? Thanks John (we are in North West Kent )
  13. We are in the process of setting up a new coffee shop and cookie bar. Have been looking at the La Spaziale machines - can anyone let us know if they are as good as they say in the product leaflets?
  14. I am currently looking to buy a coffee/espresso machine for my home (I work from home too) and would really appreciate any advice on what I should be considering. I've run some web searches looking for machine reviews but aside from those I found on Which, and the results seem to be contentious according to certain reviews, I have not been able to find anything else particularly helpful. Initially I was looking for a semi automatic machine with an integral grinder but I am also okay with buying a grinder separately if that is the right way forward. I am a novice to coffee making, certainly not drinking it though, but I would like to be able to consistently make good quality espresso, cappuccinos, lattes etc... at home. Reading some of the horror stories I was hoping to find something that won’t either break down every few months, have dodgy electrics, poor build quality (I see that seals/gaskets often seem to go), or not having enough pressure to steam the milk properly.... Other than the odd day or two it’ll never be making more than around 10-15 cups a day. I am fairly flexible on budget and don’t mind making the investment in a machine (within reason of course). I would not class myself as a connoisseur but I do like good coffee. Also, if you also have any recommendations on which shops I should be considering then that advice is also gratefully received. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to hear from some of you soon. Best Garry
  15. Hi Guys I have a Gaggia 'Coffee' espresso machine. I've had it about 5 years and it works fine. If I were to buy a 'better' machine (Rancilio Silvia seems a popular one) would it enable me to make a better cup of coffee? I make cappuccinos. In other words, what does a more expensive machine do compared with a cheaper one? Cheers Dave
  16. Hi Coffee lovers! My first Thread/post on this site. I have recently been looking at the VFA Torino 1 Group espresso machine and have found it for £699 inc VAT on a site called MyEspresso. I was thinking of buying it in a few weeks time until i came across a thread on here about how bad the customer service is with this site. I was shocked at what i was reading about how he doesnt help and always talks down to customers, blaming them for faults. as you can imagine i dont want to even think about buying off this site now! But, they are the only dealer i found that stocks this machine. Is there any other dealers in the uk? If not i was thinking of a Fracino Cherub/Heavenly. Kind Regards Chris
  17. Hi All, New here and looking into purchasing a first "real" espresso machine (i already have a grinder), Mostly drinking Americano's, occasional Espresso generally around 2 - 3 drinks a day so not a huge demand (currently using a Wacaco Nanopresso). I started off looking at the Gaggia Classic and Rancilio Silvia E models (either can be picked up for ~£400), though the further I researched more and more features became apparent of what I might prefer / find useful in a machine to ensure I wouldnt be looking to upgrade in the foreseeable future such as PID, 58mm Portafilter, E61 Group Head which lead me on to the Lelit Mara PL62 which looks like an amazing machine, however this is reaching into the £1k zone and beyond what I was looking to spend. I'm wondering if there are any other features not listed that ought to be high up on the considerations, or possibly some features here that don't really make that much difference? what everyone's suggestions are for any machines that have these features that I may find in the used market? thanks in advance for any advice
  18. I am addicted to a latte from a cafe in my city. I am using their beans (buying beans directly from them) to make lattes at home with my Gaggia Classic + Compaq K3 setup and although it tastes wonderful, it is still so different than what they produce. Significantly different and no matter what I do, I cannot replicate their tasty coffee! The cafe uses a VA388 Black Eagle and a Nuova Simonelli Mythos One. My goal is to create a coffee/latte which tastes exactly the same (or gets as close as possible) and I was hoping if you could point me to the right direction. What equipment do I need to create the same taste? I drink two coffee per day and not more than that. Want to keep it simple, just interested in this amazing taste. Hope you can help! Oh I forgot to mention: I use the same recipe they do: 1:2 which in terms of weight is 18g of coffee, 36g of water and in 30 seconds. It changes sometimes (down to a few seconds) but even when I get That ratio perfect, does not seem to be exactly the same. Only thing is they brew in 93 degrees Celsius but I Don’t have a pid installed, not sure what temp I brew my shots. Could it be this? The taste is not always the same although I repeat the same process, too. Do you think I should upgrade from the Gaggia to a device which is more forgiving? Have it for a few years now.
  19. Posted previously without any traction. I need these to go to a new home as I'm moving house at the end of the month. New thread due to splitting sale and reducing prices slightly. Mods feel free to delete the old thread. - - - Both machines are forum purchases and have served me very well. Collection from Portishead, Bristol ONLY but I will consider travelling within reason. ------------------ Photo Album: https://imgur.com/a/UISZoWa ------------------ 1) Gaggia Classic [Dec 2012] - £125 NEW upper boiler NEW steam valve (original supplied - very minor drip) NEW steam knob (original supplied - scratched & slightly loose) NEW complete seal kit & fresh bolts Upgrades: Silvia Wand OPV adjusted (not measured) Brass block (original supplied) IMS shower screen (original supplied) Comes with: Bottomless portafilter Standard portafilter Double & Single pressured baskets Double standard basket Blind basket Original tamper Dualit milk pitcher 1x sachet of PulyCaf Grouphead brush Old spares (aluminium block & shower screen, original steam wand, steam valve & knob, spare bolts for upper/lower boiler attachment) Original purchase thread https://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthrea...kage-%A3130-00 I have totally refreshed the internals with a brand new upper-boiler, steam valve and seal kit (refurbishment completed April 2018). Scale had built up in the boiler so I've given it a new lease of life while also descaling and cleaning all other internal parts. Since this refurb it's been used with Ashbeck or Brita filtered water. 2) Nuova Simonelli MDX stepless grinder (64mm) - £110 Original purchase thread: https://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthrea...sale-%A3150-00 Nothing much to add from the original thread. Burrs are still feeling fresh and biting nicely (see pics) Comes with lens-hood for single-dosing and standard hopper. It's the lower burr that adjusts, so you can remove the top and clean everything out without losing your grind setting - unusual and very helpful. I have once had an issue with it jamming when using the hopper. I put this down to a particularly hard bean and fairly tight espresso grind, however I have never had this issue when single-dosing. Thank you.
  20. SOLD PENDING PAYMENT I'm selling my R60v espresso machine as I'm finally getting round to opening my own coffee shop, so have no use for a home machine anymore. It is finished in the black option, serial number 15/57. I believe they retail for just under £3000 new. I am the second owner of this machine and it was supplied by Bella Barista In January 2016. The warranty expired on the 05/01/2018 - so still a little bit of time left. It includes the bits from new you would expect including PID, spare Portafilter, Rocket tamper and plumb in kit. No box. The machine has only pulled a few shots a week (I work in a coffee shop, and I'm opening a coffee shop so have less time than you'd think to make coffee). It has always been run on Ashbeck water, and goes through a cleaning process. Machine is in top condition. No dings, just a few subtle wisps on the drip tray and such - as you would expect. No cups or other bits not included with this machine when new (or in photos) are included in this sale. To be honest I have no idea what to ask for it. So currently putting it out there at £1800, with invitations for serious offers. Collection in Brighton, and i'm not willing to arrange courier based on the weight and nature of the item. Not going to run through the features and power of the machine - but if you have any questions then fire them at me! I also have a great condition black Mazzer Mini with timer if you'd like to buy it, or bolt it onto this sale.
  21. Hi all, im selling my beloved Gaggia classic espresso machinee with a few extras. I have owned this for about a year, and I bought it second hand from a guy who had owned it for 2 years - it is definitely still the model that was made in Italy. This machine has seen a moderate to low usage, and it has always been descaled and backflushed regularly. I have really loved using this machine and have always looked after it well, I'm absolutely gutted to be getting rid of it, but I think it's time for an upgrade. I have also done the Silvia steam wand upgrade as can be seen. I've also only ever used bottled water or filtered water. This machine Ines is in fantastic condition and I have not once had any problems with it. With this machine im including a knockbox, a Mott tamper, a milk jug, Puly cleaner (for descaling) and a cleaning brush. I am am looking for £115 for this, and would really prefer pickup in Bristol, around the BS6 area. I'm not totally against posting it but it may take a little while as I'm quite busy at the moment. Please dont hesitate to ask any questions you have. Thanks! Rory
  22. This has really caught my eye as a design icon! Does anyone know if it can make coffee? Not much anywhere about it, spares, etc. Is it just for looking at? I'm still be tempted if it doesn't make decent coffee. Any ideas, points of view or criticisms gladly received.
  23. I'm a retired codger with time but minimal pennies. I'm reasonably adept with machinery and the mending thereof (I bought my Zanussi washing machine in the summer of 1986 and I've kept it going ever since - "they don't make 'em like that anymore"), and I will take the time and trouble to get the best out of whatever I'm using. I make coffee with a ceramic percolator which I bought in the 70's, a Hario Syphon, a Moka Pot and a Melitta filter machine amongst other things. (Won't mention instant.) I've put in the effort to master them and I think I'm mostly pretty adept! I've visited Italy quite a bit and know what coffee should taste like. I also have a £40 Krups burr grinder which I'm sure many would consider rubbish but again, I've put in the practice, and so far it works for me. Now I'm considering an espresso machine for my next toy. Possibly the Francis Francis X1. Here are my questions: Am I right in thinking the pressure gauge of the mark 1 version has red bits at the end of the scale whereas the mark 2 has the pic of the girl with her tongue hanging out? Is that the best way to differentiate between the two? Is there much difference between mark 1 and mark 2? Have all mark 2 versions got brass boilers? (This is important for me - my water comes from a stream. It's filtered and UV zapped but that doesn't change the pH which can be very low - in the 5's. Only the ultimate marine stainless will resist it and aluminium will eventually suffer from "Land Rover" rust. Brass at least outlasts both. Sadly plastic is actually best.) Why do so many listed on eBay say the pressure gauge is stuck, faulty or dead? What else goes wrong with them? Am I an idiot buying one - should I be looking for something else? (Same-ish price range.) All advice gratefully received. Thanks! (What I'd really, really like is a manual pump/lever espresso machine because I'd enjoy the challenge! However they seem to be at least a factor of five beyond my price range. Any comments on that statement most welcome!)
  24. Anyone heard of La Macatec German made espresso machines? Stumbled upon them the other day, but can find very little information about them. Jim
