  3. View Advert Weber Workshops HG-1 (2020 edition) I’m selling my beloved Weber Workshops HG-1 - just bought last year. It’s a phenomenal grinder, but I’m going back to flat burrs and electric as I’m less focused on espresso. If you’re considering this, you don’t need me to tell you about it. It’s in excellent condition - there are only two small areas of scratching, which you can see - on the brushed aluminium at the front (only noticeable if looking for it) and on the shiny stainless axle just above the top burr (again, only noticeable if searching). I’m selling my beloved Weber Workshops HG-1 - just bought last year. See the last two photos for details. The TiN-coated burrs are evidently in great nick - they’re likely still seasoning. Had 1kg of rice through them at purchase and have only been through another 10kg or so of beans since. It comes with the leather mat - still in excellent condition and I really like the evolving patina - and the blind tumbler, which fits everything from pre-mill La Pavoni up to 58+mm portfilters. £500 plus postage - will be posted in original moulded Weber packaging. Will be shipped aligned but suggest aligning after shipping. Also happy for you to pick up from Glasgow.

  5. Here it is! Just a temporary one using a 30mm drill bit roughly drilled into a piece of worktop offcut, and wee glass vials from Amazon (30mmx80mm - 40ml - holds 15g of coffee and no more, so only suitable for lever lovers). I’ll eventually find a nicer bit of wood and do it properly. Total cost £15 though!
  6. Hi Matthew, I’m very interested, have sent you a DM! Please let me know if it’s still available. James
  7. The most beautiful grinder is the Lyn Weber HG-1. At least, that’s what I managed to convince my wife, and she allows it in the kitchen.
  8. I’ve tried this and found it only worked a little! Saw the revolutionary results people with OE Pharoses and previews LWs have posted, but it didn’t do much for me. It’s quite a bit better with darker roasts, for example I found a stark difference switching from quite light roasted, high altitude Ethiopian beans to darker beans more suited to espresso. But still, maybe I’m just not using enough water. Would love to not have to use the static wiper.
  9. Depends on how much effort you want to put in! I went for a Weber HG-1 ($1000) to accompany my La Pavoni, and I suppose if you want Titan burrs for that money WITHOUT loads of retention there aren’t a huge number of other options. I say that, because the going rate for a Mazzer Robur secondhand on eBay is about £700. If your throughput is decent and you don’t mind a touch of modding to eliminate the retention issue, then this would be awesome. I didn’t go down this route because of its sheer immense size. If you prefer a flat burr character then I did notice two Mazzer Royals

Recent bout of upgraditis settled with a Weber HG-1 (got a great deal from the owner on a scratched factory second... at least, that’s how I justify it). Accompanies my moderately-modded post-millennium Pavoni. Had to align the burrs out of the box and put more than a kilo of rice through the grinder to pull a decent shot, and now it’s excellent. It’s hard to know just how much better it is than my old Mazzer Mini, but the salt of my sweat and the lightness of my wallet surely improves things. Only iss
  11. Hi, I’m James, a baker and brewer and doctor based in Glasgow. Nice to be here! I’ve become obsessed with coffee like I have before with sourdough and craft beer; as quick read of this forum suggests I’m certainly not alone 😂 My current setup: Weber HG-1 w/ blind tumbler La Pavoni Europiccola (post mill); pressure gauge and digital group head thermometer; walnut handles; OE single hole steam wand; bottomless; stainless arm Homemade ‘Bean Cellar’ Kaldi Mini roaster with Mastech thermometer hooked up to Artisan Currently brewing some Hacienda la Esme
