  1. Just bought these as a bit of a treat (£14 for 250g!) from newish excellent crouch end coffee shop Velasquez Van Wezel.   2. This will look fantastic when it’s done, great job. Not sure if you mentioned in the thread- what’s your plan for the doser? I came across this guy on YouTube- Daniel Wong based in Taiwan. https://home-doserless.com/ Looks like a clever doserless mod. I emailed him earlier this year but never took the plunge and made the investment.   4. Ha! I wish- big day here unpacking boxes but main triumph was locating the boxed up grinder about an hour ago and lugging it down a loft ladder without crippling myself.   5. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve had it plumbed to a point in the cupboard underneath as thinking about maybe an Osmio type gadget in the future. The sink is just off to the side so it would be quite easy to fit a drain pipe later without making a mess. The steam issue i’ll have to wait and see when in use but thanks for pointing that out. I might end up taking the Pav out when I fire it up if it’s an issue. Oh how my wife chuckled at the suggestion of taking the doors off! She hated the insidious creep of coffee related paraphernalia overtaking the worktop before, hence the cupboard to contain it all! Since the building work I’ve been only making pour over and I have really fallen for the flavours and the different ritual. Some of that gear is worthy of display too.     Pourover kettle

    Just to add some more info re the Amazon cheapo route/ I bought one (a Homgeek electric gooseneck temperature adjustable) for about £30 if I recall. It is ok. The temperature setting is rubbish. Unless you set it under 90 it overshoots to a boil. I set at 89 and it heats to 96 if I’m lucky. Overall not bad for the money but don’t expect something like the Brewista quality.   10. I’m off on my travels for a few weeks and space will be tight. I’ve given the coffee angle way too much thought but have decided to bring only my aeropress. If there is anyone with an Aergrind wondering about how spectacular life would be with a Feld2, here is your chance to sample these sunny [emoji3508] uplands.     Camden spots

    Welcome to the area! Loft on Canfield Gardens (behind the Waitrose on Finchley Rd) is decent and they are pretty into their coffee. Recently doubled in size I think and they do Square Mile and have recently changed their kit to a Mythos and Victoria Arduino. Ginger and White in Hampstead- not been for a couple of years but was set up as Aussie style. They had one nearer you on England’s Lane but that seems to have closed.   12. +1 for the Wilfa svart. I use it 3x a day at work and I really enjoy the results. MWJB suggested a few extra beans in to account for the inevitable grinds retention. It’s actually quite good in this regard, under half a gram. I have a cut down little paint brush that i can sweep the exit chute with once a day. He suggested single dosing because beans stay fresher in an air tight container rather than in a hopper and between drinks there will always be some half ground beans between the burrs going stale and noticeable unpleasant tasting unless you grind and discard the first couple of grams before making your coffee each time. Coffee shops get away with it because they are making a drink ever minute or two so the beans in the hopper or between the burrs don’t stick around long enough to go stale. Positives: quick, consistent results with good grind quality (and excellent for the money). Easy adjustment, low retention. Only downsides: static in the plastic collection box. I sometimes notice the setting being moved through the vibration of grinding so I have got into the habit of holding the top for the few seconds it’s grinding. It may just be my unit. I still use my Feld2 at home for filter and enjoy the hand grinding a lot. 30-45s approx for 15g depending on coarseness. The quality of grind may be slightly better but I get tasty pour over and aeropress results with both grinders. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ve really fallen for pour over recently and I’ve started jotting down settings, doses and timings. The advice not to dwell overly on long draw downs is something I’ve discovered too.   14. Thanks for this link. They look a bit rough edged. Do they need filing off? Any success finding a removable method of attaching to optimise thermal transfer and not scratch the group? I wonder about some metal tape to line the inside of the heat sink and get a nice fit. Something like this on ebay: I must confess to some current frustration with my pre-mil (non-pressurestat, brass piston) getting so ridiculously hot. It easily idles at 110 after bleeding air and pulling a shot according to the temp strips. I found a great old discussion on here earlier (La Pavoni Europicolla pre millenium pimp strip heatup https://coffeeforums.co.uk/index.php?/topic/36220-La-Pavoni-Europicolla--pre-millenium-pimp-strip-heatup) - some nice temperate data that chimes with my experience. I can just about manage to make 2 drinks- making 2 consecutive espressos keeping things cool, then ramping up for milk. Good job it’s mostly used for making one espresso.

  18. I gave the side of my head a real knock on the underside of the cupboard last week early in the morning crouching to gauge my pre-infusion and when to rachet up to full pressure on the pull. Having found a lovely cafe near where I work that sells Square Mile, I’m really enjoying their Sweet Shop blend of 2 Rwandan single origins, one natural processes Huye Mountain and I can’t remember the other. It is quite pricey but the bags are 350g. I think they do vary the blend over time. I’m getting really interesting and enjoyable results with espresso, milk based and pour over. I’m only just learning pour over methods and theory largely from the brilliant threads on here. I never would have guessed how deep this particular rabbit hole goes!   21. I think you just like giving me Saturday night homework! Some moderate success here- the grinding down of the metal ring from the lens hood worked well and now sits snugly inside holding the lens hood firmly in place. I found a glass lid from a Kilner jar fits perfectly as a lid. My only doubt is how much puffing pressure it generates but I’ll try it in anger tomorrow morning. As a back up I’ve Blue Petered a well fitting bobber from a small yoghurt pot glued to a plastic ebay piping bottle. Now I just have to come up with a plausible explanation for the filing noises coming from downstairs late at night. Grinding my lens hood ring sounds like an unfortunate euphemism.
  22. Quick question- I’ve not managed to get the lens hood working as a ‘bopper’ to blow through retained grinds. It collapses when you press on it. All the eBay ones seem to be collapsible to use for telephoto/wide angle. Any tips on how you’ve done it? The fit isn’t great on the major. I think I need a bit of Perspex tubing cut to sit the mouth of the chute. But I still don’t think this would make the ‘bopping’ work. Thanks
  23. Thanks Jimbo. So that was my rock n roll Saturday night sorted! [emoji1736] Not sure how successful I was though. I didn’t find any low spots to shim and I’m still finding my espresso range is only 3/4 of a ‘number’ from the chirping point. Having said that, this morning’s round of coffees were great.
  24. He’s definitely grown on me. He made an interesting observation about the Aergrind- essentially that for espresso there was a narrow window between too coarse and too fine. With my Feld2 I am generally delighted but I had observed a similar issue dialling in but always attributed the gush/choke to the idiosyncrasies of my prep and La Pavoni. It’s hard to be scientific as reproducibility is the challenge with the Pav. I’ve recently moved to motorised big flat burrs for home espresso so we’ll see.
  25. It was in a bit of a state when I finally got it after frustrating ebay shenanigans involving a wasted 2hr round trip to Essex. I stripped it right down tonight and gave it a good clean. It looks like the first time anyone had showed it any affection. It’s come up really well. First bonus was finding Mazzer T151a titanium burrs that someone has kindly seasoned for me. Second bit of good news was noting @ajohn’s post earlier this evening it looks like a 2014 model so it’s hopefully got a good bit of life left in it. The grinder also has a the shiny lacquered metal appearance rather than the more common silver paint. It’s a bit scuffed but no major dings. I think it looks pretty good. Has anyone any experience using something like tcut on the finish to polish it up? Planning to try it single dosing with my tamper on top tomorrow before probably having a play with the cardboard clean sweep mod and buying some 60mm diameter perplex tubing and a 58mm rubber lens hood. Looking forward to my first shots with it.
