  1. Try and snag a Mazzer Major. 83mm burrs but in a smaller package. Excellent grinder.
  2. Agree, individually is the way to go. Very nice kit indeed, well look after and serviced, it's highly desirable. What's your gut feeling? It's usually not far off the mark.
  3. The first thing I check when purchasing anything new, is.. 'can I get spares'? I've been bitten too many times now. I'll rather pay double knowing I can fix the damn thing when it breaks.

    Cafe NERO

Although they are my least hated high street coffee 'big 3', I find them inconsistent. Some days it can be quite acceptable, others days awful. One day when it was quiet I had a chat to the supervisor... They use a 15g dose, 1:3 ratio and aim for 22-ish seconds extraction time. The grinder (Macap MXD - 75mm flat) is adjusted to suit, but never the timer so the dose will vary depending with grind adjustment. I doubt it's adjusted from the start of the day to the end. The machines are Faema E91 Ambassadors with 3 or 4 groups and a fancy water filtration system, OEM portafilter basket. They never clean the portafilter after each shot, just knock it out, grind in fresh, and use a mechanical lever tamper (all done very quickly), lock and load, press the button, go off and do something else.
  5. Or Sage for that matter.....
  6. Thanks @leafybasil Interesting fault, sounds like something has shorted for sure. Let us know if you manage to find the issue, it would be good to build up a knowledge-base on these critters.
  7. Here's one.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/XUNADA-Espresso-Precision-Stainless-Portafilters/dp/B08FZR4QZ1/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=54mm+funnel&qid=1632322481&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFKSVVJTFM1Tk03V1AmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTAzMzQ2MDlETExBQkdMQklLUEsmZW5jcnlwdGVkQWRJZD1BMDQ5NzY2ODFKWlJOU1VMQUFSTUQmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl
  8. I agree. Prefer the taste of my flat, but a lot fussier to work with. (I don't single dose either)
  9. It was removed from the factory (no hole).
  10. @longpvo I can answer the question about lack of flap adjuster on the 2017-2019 E37S (I have one). Absolutely zero clumping / spraying. Big improvement from having the clump crusher flap in my opinion. Just a lovely fluffy mound of coffee in the portafilter.
  11. Just checked out the La Pavoni. What a beautiful looking machine!
  12. Love the fully tricked out, polished Gaggia Classic complete with wood accents!

  14. You may find that your 10g retention reduces with further use as all those nooks, crannies and voids fill up in the grind chamber. The Svart is not designed to be a single doser, but a lot of people use it that way without too much issue. There will always be a small amount of 'exchange' though.
  15. Are you sure they need replacing? Conical burrs last far longer than flat burrs. Should be good for many many kg's of coffee. Why do you think they need replacing?
  16. Maybe this?? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174832120864?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1SIiWzwmITZmSRky1SSoJZA78&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=174832120864&targetid=1394822097340&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=1007308&poi=&campaignid=14475941930&mkgroupid=130506788630&rlsatarget=pla-1394822097340&abcId=9300649&merchantid=6995734&gclid=CjwKCAjw7fuJBhBdEiwA2lLMYaR6zAiinNFmtTRX_rMviPOuVdDGVZA4iJigy4IICAS5rlvImOHhbBoC9uMQAvD_BwE Another option - but more expensive is to have one custom made. I did this with my La Spaziale 53mm (IMS basket). TORR TOYS made one to 53.6mm it was around Β£70 if I recall but was a lovely tight fit. (TORR 'sharp edge' with black African wood handle)
  17. Tiling is over-rated anyway πŸ‘
  18. What is the roast level of the PACT beans? If too light then that may be your problem (grinder). Also try WDT or puck raking to ensure you have a fully even bed. This helps to prevent channeling. Are you weighing your output?
