  1. Dear Forum Members, Cup of Excellence is perhaps the most prestigious competition and award for high quality coffees. The level of scrutiny that Cup of Excellence coffees undergo is unmatched anywhere in the speciality coffee industry. The competition is rigorous, with cupping evaluations conducted over a three-week process by industry experts: first by a National Jury of about a dozen qualified jurors from the origin country, and then by an International Jury, comprised of approximately 20-25 experienced jurors from around the world. A competition with 300 entries yields an average of 9,000 analysed cups, with each “Top 10” coffee being cupped at least 120 times. Fazenda Santa Barbara is this year’s Brazil Pulped Naturals Champion, having scored highest from all winning farms, a whooping SCAA score of 91.66. This winning micro lot of 510kg in total, was split and auctioned to two buyers - 270kg went to Japan, and 240kg was purchased by Difference Coffee. As you can imagine, the coffee is absolutely delicious. It has sweet fruit aromas of melon and honey, with refined and multidimensional acidity. A super juicy cup with great balance and consistency. Due to the limited supply of this champion bean, a maximum 300 boxes per month can be produced, 100 of which were pre-sold to the trade. Should you be interested in pre-ordering a box of 10 capsules, compatible with your home nespresso* machine, do drop us a line at [email protected], but do hurry as we expect this coffee to be sold out relatively quickly. Many thanks and hope to share this amazing coffee with some of you. Warmest wishes, Amir Gehl *third-party brand with no link to Difference Coffee Co.
  2. Hi Everyone, Wanted to share a short article that was written about us over the weekend. If anyone wants more information, please PM me. Many thanks, Amir http://europe.newsweek.com/how-one-entrepreneur-reinventing-coffee-pod-542657
  3. Dear Members, I am pleased to announced that from January, Difference Coffee Co will be extending its coffee menu to include Geisha from the Esmeralda Special collection- winner of more than 14 international prizes since 2004. This highly prized bean was sourced from micro lot Bosque 5 within the Jaramillo farm. It is perfumed on the nose with a unique floral aromatic of jasmine and roses and good citric acidity on the palate. A sweet, juice and delicious cup. The coffee will be roasted by Jonny England, one of only four QGraders in Europe who is licensed in both Speciality Arabica and Fine Robusta. Jonny is also a trainer for the SCAE as well as head judge at World Barista Championship and World Brewer's Cup. Only a limited amount of this coffee will be roasted and should you be interested in securing a little allocation please feel free to send me a private message. Warmest wishes, Amir Gehl
  4. You guys are correct. We work at 5.5g with capsules with oxygen barrier, and these are nitro-flushed to exclude any oxygen. I think Nespresso did a really fine job creating that system, and with 1 in every 10 households in the UK having one, it seems to be the most popular choice. Convenience is really the key for most people, even for myself really. So whilst I enjoy pulling a good shot every now and then, I actually prefer the variety of waking up to one coffee, having a different one post lunch, and a more mellow one early evening.
  5. Shame, I got some Best of Panama 2016 Esmeralda Geisha capsules, you sure these wont scratch?
  6. Hi Everyone, Our website should be up and running within a week. Unfortunately, our supply of coffee is very limited and we therefore wont be selling through a shop but rather through a mailing list with allocation for each member, to make it fair. At the moment, our coffees are sold out and most of the clients are actually friends or mine or restaurant, but as we get more supply from the estates, we are hoping to be able to open it more to a wider clientele. Regarding Luwak, there's a lot of controversy surrounding the bean and the general consensus is that in most cases it is poorly farmed (it's caged) and it's low quality. Whilst I agree that this is overall the case in the market, our company is committed to sourcing only Wild Luwak which has been graded blindly as a Speciality coffee. We actually find that our Luwak provides a "hook" for customers to transition between cheap coffees and speciality coffees and I think that in a world where most people never tried a speciality coffee, anything that promotes excellence should be respected. As for the mouthfeel of capsules, the system extracts with 3-4% tds so it would always feel different to an Espresso, but we do find that a significant amount of flavour is extracted and for those who are used to capsules, we provide an upgrade. I guess there are trade-offs to every system and in my opinion, what you lose in mouthfeel and flavour is overcompensated by freshness, balance, simplicity, cleanliness and cost. Whilst its true that per capsule our coffees are not cheap, you still get some of the most awarded coffees on earth for the same price as a Freappucino in Starbucks. Thanks again for your feedback, please keep asking questions and if you're interested in trying some of our coffees, do let me know. Have a great day! Amir
  7. Hi all, we currently source, roast and pack very small amounts so our prices are quite high. Our current range runs from £2.50 to £5.00 per cup, but our beans are quite rare in their nature and we sell out every month. Our informative website will be up next week, but we sell to friends and friends of friends at the moment, as we are interested in supplying to regular clients who are interested only in the finest beans, and not for people to try once for fun. I hope that makes sense.
  8. Thought I'd drop a line to introduce myself and what I do. My name is Amir and I'm the founder of Difference Coffee Co. We source some of the worlds most awarded and rarest coffees, roast them locally under the supervision of 2 Q Graders 1 of which is a judge at world coffee competitions, and pack them in Nespresso capsules. Yes, our coffees taste better when made by a professional barista with the best equipment, but for those who don't have the time, money, skills, or patience, we're the next best thing. If you'd like to learn more, give me a shout.
  9. Have you considered trying Speciality coffee capsules?
  10. I fully understand where you're coming from, liking the system but interested in better coffees. That's why I launched Difference Coffee recently, capsulating some of the worlds best coffees, feel free to send me a message if you're interested.
  11. On the subject of Geishas, would anyone be interested in trying some Esmeralda Geisha Special in Nespresso compatible capsules?
