  1. I had underestimated how far Nottingham is from Birmingham - it would turn my return trip from just under 2hrs to almost 5hrs! Not quite sure I can bring myself to willingly spend that long in a car on a bank holiday weekend.
  2. Throwing my hat in the ring with interest from afar - I'm in the South West near Bristol. Don't suppose your work travels ever bring you this way? Will be driving to Shropshire and back via Birmingham over the weekend (Sat->Mon) & could conceivably make a detour. Thoughts?
  3. I'm afraid I don't, and with the house move approaching I won't be going anywhere for a little while. Sorry!
  4. Posted previously without any traction. I need these to go to a new home as I'm moving house at the end of the month. New thread due to splitting sale and reducing prices slightly. Mods feel free to delete the old thread. - - - Both machines are forum purchases and have served me very well. Collection from Portishead, Bristol ONLY but I will consider travelling within reason. ------------------ Photo Album: https://imgur.com/a/UISZoWa ------------------ 1) Gaggia Classic [Dec 2012] - £125 NEW upper boiler NEW steam valve (original supplied - very minor drip) NEW steam knob (original supplied - scratched & slightly loose) NEW complete seal kit & fresh bolts Upgrades: Silvia Wand OPV adjusted (not measured) Brass block (original supplied) IMS shower screen (original supplied) Comes with: Bottomless portafilter Standard portafilter Double & Single pressured baskets Double standard basket Blind basket Original tamper Dualit milk pitcher 1x sachet of PulyCaf Grouphead brush Old spares (aluminium block & shower screen, original steam wand, steam valve & knob, spare bolts for upper/lower boiler attachment) Original purchase thread https://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthrea...kage-%A3130-00 I have totally refreshed the internals with a brand new upper-boiler, steam valve and seal kit (refurbishment completed April 2018). Scale had built up in the boiler so I've given it a new lease of life while also descaling and cleaning all other internal parts. Since this refurb it's been used with Ashbeck or Brita filtered water. 2) Nuova Simonelli MDX stepless grinder (64mm) - £110 Original purchase thread: https://coffeeforums.co.uk/showthrea...sale-%A3150-00 Nothing much to add from the original thread. Burrs are still feeling fresh and biting nicely (see pics) Comes with lens-hood for single-dosing and standard hopper. It's the lower burr that adjusts, so you can remove the top and clean everything out without losing your grind setting - unusual and very helpful. I have once had an issue with it jamming when using the hopper. I put this down to a particularly hard bean and fairly tight espresso grind, however I have never had this issue when single-dosing. Thank you.
  5. Ad has now been on a few days with no interest - taking that as nudge to price the items separately. Still both collect only. If someone can give me a pointer about changing the thread title to reflect the changes, I'd be obliged.
  6. Evening all, Recently gone for a different setup and about to move house. I've been told by the 'powers-that-be' that these need to go before the move. Both are forum purchases and have served me very well. 7. I had inadvertently reversed the wiring for that switch - NOW SORTED! Thanks for the heads up. Out of curiosity, what on earth does the flap actually do?
  8. Righto. I've reconnected it with no joy. Am I likely to have fried something by switching the machine on with the flap unplugged?
  9. Afternoon all. My MDX has given up the ghost this morning. It's the old style, doser version, like this: No motor sounds at all and only a dim light on the power switch. Burrs are spinning freely by hand, and plug fuse is fine. One thing that might have relevance: last night I unplugged the 'Automatic Release Assembly' which is the flap & switch that dangles over the chute, in order to access the chute more easily. It's part 15050012 in the parts book found here: http://www.nuovadistribution.com/Grinders/MDX.html Questions: 1) Have I done something wildly stupid? 2) Does anyone have any experience stripping these down for repair? 3) Where can I take it for advice/repair quotes? I'm near Bristol, UK Thanks
  10. Thanks for the reply re burrs. I would like to come and view the machine & grinder with a view to purchasing at asking price. If if this is acceptable according to the rules of the forum, I’d like to make arrangements by email.
  11. This looks very tempting - I'm Portishead-based and looking to upgrade from my Gaggia Classic setup. How are the burrs looking? Have they been replaced at all? Cheers, David
  12. Machine arrived perfectly - many thanks to Sean who did a stellar job of wrapping and boxing very securely.
  13. Thanks - replied. For transparency, it will be a few days before I'm able to go and view, but I'm dead keen.
  14. Hi, I'm starting out and looking to get hold of a decent grinder. I'm just outside Bristol so I'd love to come and take a look at some point. Cheers.
