  1. As a thank you to the forum that has really supported us at a time when our business has changed dramatically overnight, I have a forum specific code for 15% off coffee. CFUK15 The feedback we have had has been amazing, I am enjoying roasting all the more knowing it is being prepared with such care and attention to detail by members. We are stocking a new line of domestic machines from a well known Italian manufacturer in the not too distant future and I intend to launch with some deals just for members. We will have a choice of HX machines and a really awesome rotary pump dual

  2. Me? I created the Coffee Forums first Groom. I joined in 2013, seeking advice on a coffee grinder for my then 15 year old, who'd just been diagnosed with severe and permanent sight loss. A diagnosis that resulted in some truly discriminatory experiences, and at such a young age, he'd struggled with it. An Italian holiday revealed some pretty in depth espresso expertise, and I figured that if his interest was supported, we might slowly rebuild his confidence. Twitter led me to Max at Colonna, who was happy to offer Barista training before we set him up at home. And then I discovered

  4. When I joined the forum there was a blanket ban on any discussion around politics or religion. Bickering was frowned upon. Rudeness and personal insults were not tolerated. The decision of the forum owner was final and members respected that. I am saddened to see the direction the forum has taken, the many members who simply don’t post these days, members who were valued for their knowledge and experience in the coffee industry, as well as their humour and fellowship. It appears the main source of argument, bickering, rudeness, and downright nastiness is generated from discussions a

  5. Hi folks. I thought I would put together a little offer to hopefully brighten some people's day during lockdown. In order for us to offer this coffee at a really great price we are making things as simple as possible so it is 1KG bags only and it will all be roasted and dispatched together on the same day. P&P is included in the price. If there is any left over it will be on the offer list afterwards at usual retail price. This is a super lot from Peru that has an unusual hybrid processing method with an extended anaerobic fermentation. Cup Score is 86+ LOCKDOWN SPECIAL

  8. So, after my 'Road Trip' in December of 2017 I ended up buying a lovely Speedster from a great guy called @EricC and apparently saved a few marriages.. It sat on my worktop until I fathomed out how to plumb it in.. This was going to be the last machine that I would ever own.. Scroll on two and a half years and things sort of happened... Ummmmmm...... Errrrrr... Well that sort of escalated. At least all my plumbing was done, all I had to do was relocate the hole in the worktop and move things round a bit in my cupboard. So, yeah.. 9. No problem using us as an example. For us we try and be transparent and put an SCA Cup Score on our SO coffee so people have an idea based on what should be an independent and consistent criteria. This is only part of the story of course and a huge amount of factors affect the wholesale price of a coffee with the biggest being supply and demand. All the coffee we use in our blends is 84+ but I do not include specifics in the blends. As with any product some companies will be selling quality stuff but charging an added premium based on their branding etc. If people want to buy in to

  10. Complete disclosure before I get into this as I want to be completely upfront about what I am trying to achieve. I have been looking to develop a single dosing flat burr grinder to come in under the £1000 mark. I have my own idea on burr geometry, motor speed and grind path and have put together the beginnings of the project. What I am interested in is what the end user would want from the grinder, from footprint, aesthetics and functionality. I am not doing this on behalf of another company or seeking to make comparisons with other grinders that are already out there, I am doing this to

  11. Hi folks, A lot of you lovely members already know us and have been kind enough to purchase from us. For those that are new we are Black Cat Coffee. We are a small roaster in rural Norfolk. We seek out super high quality Single Origin coffee through a number of importers and some rare gems through direct trade with farmers. You will find lots of info on our site about our coffee including the SCA Cup Score. We are always a PM away if you need any advice making a selection though. Along side our freshly roasted coffee we offer lots of different accessories, brewers and grinders.

You can have a mental image of a person chuckling at your coffee related misfortune behind a keyboard . perhaps sometimes we just need to see a person to understand a little about them and their circumstances . This is me , posting this morning , I’m not allowed to move or put the tv on . I often type one handed as that’s all I have , the other baby occupied , I often post short replies without some of the pleasantries others do, not because I don’t think they are important but because I simply don’t have

Then do a google search for Cafe Italia and check out the trust pilot reviews Then try and understand how this forum now takes money for a banner without checking, just how crap they are.

This forum has been invaluable in learning more about the machine and what to look for when choosing one. To give a little something back I thought I would summarise some of the content from the 64 pages of the main MaraX thread (and info from elsewhere) to help other first-time buyers considering the MaraX. It’s a coffee forum mate, I don’t come here for political discussion , people’s views on brexit , the left , the right , immigration , flat earth , etc etc . I am really taken with the white ones, they are an old English style white rather than brilliant white and they just look fabulous! They will come standard with a bottomless portafilter and both a stainless and matching drip tray. Excuse my slightly naff photography.

In no particular order . . . Many members speak of 'mods'. Mods should do this, why don’t mods do that, that was a bad decision by a mod, and such like. Who ARE these mods? If anyone is interested there are probably 3 or 4 members here who delete spam, act on complaints such as rudeness, correct misplaced threads, move items to sold etc. They are unpaid. Mental health problems effect 1 in 4 of us and there is still a lot of stigma and discomfort in talking about our mental health. useful link here: https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk

Costa Rica Las Palomas - Natural - Cup Score 87.5 Not balanced at all - it is sweet, sweet, sweet. Has some almond and cherry flavours particularly when brewed in a V60. Yup it is liquid bakewell tart - sold me on it! Brazil Fazenda Terra Preta - Natural - Cup Score 86 Our first Direct Trade coffee. We deal directly with the family owners of this fabulous farm. It has more fruit than you would expect from a Brazil. Notes of tropical fruits,

  27. Hey folks, Rachel, Head Roaster at Steampunk here. It's great to read your comments about the coffee and our packaging! We've worked hard to make our packaging plastic-free, so I'm glad you're appreciating it. Also, we've put a lot of investment into our roasting machine in the last year, so the roasts coming out are consistently better than the last time we roasted for you. That CR was a good one, but this one beats it hands down on green quality and quality of roasting, in my humble opinion I won't reveal anything else until Chris tells me it's time. Until then, happy brewing!

  30. Background: wife drinks Cart Noir instant and thinks it’s the bees knees. Anything else is not right. Well, apart from when we go to the greasy spoon and orders a coffee, which, apparently is “nice and mellow”. I just got a new machine the other day. Wife: you could make me a coffee. me: sure! wife: but I don’t like it too strong. me: thinks: well, ok. A split double then. wife: I don’t like too much milk. I don’t like lattes. me: thinks: ok. Small jug, cappuccino, with lots of froth. right. So I go and make the coffee. Taking no chances, I show her everything. w

  34. yes please! ? Alright, recap of today's full day... First off, Men's alpine skiing downhill race in Kitzbühel was on, and watching that on telly is a really big thing in Austria - many stayed home until afterwards. Which was fine with me as it meant a soft start. Served a grand total of around 200 cups, many of them being Americanos. Machine did exceptionally well - also with delivering hot water. It's only a matter of chronology: pour some cold water into cup, fill group, dispense hot water into cup (remember, it's an Izzo Leva running 120C boiler temp - you better mix

I rarely post my latte art, since I know it easy for the rest of you to be intimidated by my profound skill. As a child, he was traumatized by an unfortunate incident with a hot tap, and his favourite albino goldfish. He rarely talks about it. And so in honour of his birthday - I crafted a near perfect replication of his goldfish ‘Ghost’ Happy birthday Dave

  42. Many thanks to @Hairy_Hogg and @Daren for arranging this and giving us the opportunity to roast for such a fabulous group of enthusiasts. Congrats to @filthynines on guessing the correct origin and process. Usually we tend to favour funk and fruit in our coffee but I just kept being drawn back to this one on the cupping table. As we said in the reveal notes, this was not big on fruit but it just had such a refined and delicate flavour in the cup. Elegant is how I would describe it. If people still have some left I have been enjoying it at a really long 1:5 ratio in recent days.

  44. OK - This is the bean: It's from Nicaragua and is from the Limoncillo Farm. It's a Yellow Pacamara, but it's the petites (the smaller screen sizes, so it actually looks similar to other smaller varietals in terms of bean size) and it's been Pulped Natural processed. Roland's tasting notes are a big hit of hops, with lemon zest and pink grapefruit. There's brown sugar sweetness coming through on the end, which moves into a subtle milk chocolate on the aftertaste. All I can say is if this is the petites I would hate to see the big ones!

It is possible to fit them without a special tool with a bit of improvisation, but the seals are expensive and can be damaged by sharp edges on the piston grooves and a certain amount of dexterity is required. As people may not want to buy a tool to use only once in a while I am offering this tool for hire to established forum members for £6 a time. The tool will fit the Londinium L1 an
