  1. Hi folks. I thought I would put together a little offer to hopefully brighten some people's day during lockdown. In order for us to offer this coffee at a really great price we are making things as simple as possible so it is 1KG bags only and it will all be roasted and dispatched together on the same day. P&P is included in the price. If there is any left over it will be on the offer list afterwards at usual retail price. This is a super lot from Peru that has an unusual hybrid processing method with an extended anaerobic fermentation. Cup Score is 86+ LOCKDOWN SPECIAL

  2. No problem using us as an example. For us we try and be transparent and put an SCA Cup Score on our SO coffee so people have an idea based on what should be an independent and consistent criteria. This is only part of the story of course and a huge amount of factors affect the wholesale price of a coffee with the biggest being supply and demand. All the coffee we use in our blends is 84+ but I do not include specifics in the blends. As with any product some companies will be selling quality stuff but charging an added premium based on their branding etc. If people want to buy in to

  3. The special edition models have arrived and they look even better than I was expecting. I am really taken with the white ones, they are an old English style white rather than brilliant white and they just look fabulous! They will come standard with a bottomless portafilter and both a stainless and matching drip tray. Excuse my slightly naff photography.

  7. Hi all, In case anyone is interested, I created a 3D-printable (and editable) coffee distribution tool. It works *amazingly* well. It is based on various previous tools found on thingiverse. It uses planetary gears to rotate a bunch of needles on top of the basket. It creates an even and fluffy bed, even with my sage grinder. Feel free to download, edit and print your own versions: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4720148 Some pics below. edite: anyone knows how to make the images smaller here ? 2021011

  8. After various Brexit / Covid / Xmas delivery delays, my shiny silver (actually its more matt than shiny) Lagom P64 arrived this morning. First impressions - well packaged, nicely heavy, beautifully machined and finished grinder, very quiet and with easy to use controls, with a few nice accessories included. Its like a piece of art next to my very utilitarian Mazzer Mini B Second impressions - very fluffy grind compared to the Mazzer (the grinds taking up more space in the portafilter) and a fair bit of static... 18g in 17.8g out... and... oops, too fine to get any water through... in

  13. It is quite simple. If more people followed the rules more closely, as opposed to deciding that they just have to drive into Wales to go hill walking......if all the attendees at the French Rave decided to grow up and stop being delinquents.......I could go on and on. Those of us who follow the rules will always follow th rules, but there are far too many who simply think they know better

  18. OK - Jan is going to be an interesting month. We tried hard to source a roaster from Europe and I spent a considerable amount of time with several roasters however due to multiple reasons this is not going to happen. However...... For Jan we have a roaster who is sourcing beans for us which will be an exclusive that are going to be a bit special and involve something that is pretty new to coffee production. I cannot say more as I do not want people googling away. Anyways, as I had to sort this early in December after being let down by the roasters we were in discussion with and

  19. No room in the inn... I managed to squeeze it all in the narrow space available. Bezzera Mitica HX tanked, 3 years old, 2cd. hand La Pavoni Europiccola for those urgently needed quick shots, old San Remo flat grinder, solid old knockbox and lots of other bits and bobs. It works for me 🙂

  23. I made a few changes to my Raspberry-Pi-controlled Gaggia Classic over the last couple of weeks (for context: orginal post on the Gaggia Users Group here; old demo video here). One thing that was bugging me with this setup was that I wasn't able to measure pressure inside the group during extraction. I was curious about determining how to end preinfusion based on pressure readings, understanding puck resistance during the shot, and playing with declining flow profiles, etc. I didn't want to put a pressure transducer right after the pump (since there are tiny holes / valves acting as flow

  32. Well, 2021 has come and therefore we need a new coffee. After many trials and tribulations (see announcement thread) we have one sorted and it will be another exclusive for us and from the excellent roaster Django. Stephen has an excellent coffee for us, fresh arrived from overseas and as per other threads we will be getting this on the 11th (coming via DPD next day to ensure we beat the Royal Mail trials we endured in December) Cost for this delicious coffee is £13 delivered for 500g Names not down, your not coming on the flavour train.... 1. 2. 3. 4

  35. We've been doing a six and a half mile walk from ours into the country since the first lockdown. By the time the anniversary comes round, we aim to have clocked up a thousand miles. Been a life saver - apart from the exercise, we've seem some amazing wild life. Came across a fight to the death between a barn owl and kestrel over rights to an adjacent barn. Neither would let go but eventually they called a draw and flew off in opposite directions. By far and away the weirdest was coming across a yellow oriole in May. It was sitting on top of a hawthorn hedge bordering a field and was clearly di

  36. Shout out to our forum sponsor @Crownandcanvas helping me out to get me some coffee as soon as possible after New Year as I was out of beans. I told him I like my coffee well rested (10-14 days), so he was so kind to go out of his way and provide 2 bags of +- 10-14 days while the other 2 are freshly roasted. This gives me ample time to finish those 2 bags straight away while the others get some well deserved rest. Just outstanding customer service, cannot ask for more.

  40. I've been using it for a few months now. I never state I'm an expert on anything coffee like, so take this with a pinch of salt. But I have had experience of some bits, so can compare. But my opinion is that it is extremely good. The grinder is solid and weighty as well as very stable. It's easily repeatable and the retention is minimal. It's not nil. But is very low. Always under 0.1 grams for me and often negligible. Although it would be nice to have some kind of Mr Puff style device to aid the final bits to escape the shoot. I open for the HU burrs and am glad I did. I found the

  43. As im completely stuck in my upgrading process i thought id show an Image i just found on my phone which shows my travel setup. A good friend of mine gave me the cx-25 some years ago because he wasnt using it anymore. Since then its been living in my van and has gotten quite a lot of use over the years. I definitely prefer the coffee from this machine over the bialetti, even though its not always that easy to get right. For example ive switched to having the water almost boil before screwing the top part with filter and coffee on. Not as convenient, but i feel the coffee catches too much heat

  45. Eureka Helios 80 - Six Month Review In early June 2020 Eureka managed to ship its first consignment of Helios grinders to the UK. As far as I can tell, that shipment was the first and last of the summer, as Eureka then suffered raw material shortages which impacted on the production of their newest grinder. I had been looking for a new grinder, something much better than my Mazzer SJ, so I was particularly keen to find something faster and easier to adjust and maintain. Thanks to Bella Barista I was fortunate enough to receive one of the first Helios grinders, specifically

What an amazing achievement, can’t say we have taken our walks to your level, but from about June on. we settled on a walking app that worked for us and have been using it when we remember to switch on before heading out. Currently just a whisker short of 450 miles under our belts. The encounters you describe are both vivid and enchanting. Experiences on the walks are always different and provide a mindful escape from the hum drum of day to day life - I guess stopping to smell the roses moments, it’s a real privilege. Seeing the oriole is probably etched into your mind - that vivid
