  1. To all those to whom it means a lot: Eid Mubarak! My wife has already made biryani, which is almost as good as my mother-in-law’s. Sadly she’s having to work, but we’ll try and have a relaxing day with our boy nevertheless.

  4. Oh how nice! I thought nobody would ever ask! So what I did is, I ordered a free sample of solid wood floor, make sure it's solid, not engineered (or you'll see the layers on the cut side). I bought the 15mm, but 13mm is better (I had to reduce the thickness a bit) I then bought these inserts from ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THREADED-WOOD-INSERT-NUTS-M4-M5-M6-M8-M10-HEX-DRIVE-SCREW-FIXINGS-TYPE-D/362330674849?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=631533755686&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 I cut the wood 60mmx90mm I then drilled 2

  6. After four years of Trump - the best the Democrats could come up with is sleep Joe Biden who is quite probably in the early stages of dementia/Alzheimer's. If he is, how on earth is he going to fulfill his duties as president - remember, the president has his or her finger on the nuclear button. I foresee him being president in name only whilst the power of office is in the hands of the unelected.

  7. The honest truth is this....a lot of DE shavers start this way because it *should* be significantly cheaper. Most blades' packs are c. £9 per 100, depending on the brand. As a broad guide you're looking at anywhere between 6-20p per blade. Blades last depending on a number of factors; the blade it's self, coarseness of stubble, amount of passes undertaken per shave, user preference on keeping blades. A lot of people in the shaving community adopt a 3 shave rule i.e. they'll have 3 shaves with a blades an and then toss it, in order to avoid any degrading in the shave. Others keep using a blade

  8. I think media bias is in the eyes of the beholder isnt it? Historically, the BBC have always been accused of being biassed by both left and right over lots of different issues. Anyone with strong opinions over an issue will have a degree of bias and filter information accordingly. But i agree, don't pay the licence fee if you dont like the BBC. More power to you. I voted to leave the EU, and i’m a lefty, id like to see many more socialist leaning policies in the UK. Under EU law that would have been impossible. Although you’d have to be an idiot to think leaving wont have negative eff

  11. Boris hit the nail on the head when, after December's result, he acknowledged legions of Labour voters had lent the Tories their vote. He has to deliver meaningfully to that vote over the next four years. If he does it bodes ill for Labour. True the metropolitan vote isn't going to shift to the Tories - that's not the problem. The metropolitan vote is more vocal and, as such, has more heft within the Labour party. I have a feeling that, broadly, this demographic holds the working class vote in scarcely concealed contempt. Look at Brexit.

  13. Think I mis-read the OP. I think there is a good chance Trump will get in but I would vote for Biden. The american political landscape is even more shitty than that in the UK so whichever party rules it will still ultimately be big business running the country.

  14. That's the point Boots, Trump set the bar pretty low and the Democrats have managed to dumb down to it rather than above it.

  17. You realise your twitter handle is on your signature? 😂 You're correct in thinking the EU said we couldn't trade on different terms if we remained in the customs union (in fairness it's mutually exclusive) but they've gone one further. One of their two 'sticking points' in current negotiations is that they're effectively saying we still can't! 😂 'level playing field' they call it. The notion that a country can't trade on different terms because it would be a threat to another one....seems very fascist and oppressive to me. As a tory I think it's a genuine shame that labour have lost

  18. Yeah, ideally if that was on the table. I would like to still have that ‘frictionless’ trade agreement that it offers, just for economic/job stability etc. I have concerns for the many towns up north that rely on 1 or 2 big employers for work, who may leave the UK if we don't have those easy trade routes in place. But, saying that, I am also very optimistic about trade deals with the rest of the world, and what that can offer us as a country and I may be wrong, but my understanding is the EU have said we cannot trade with the rest of the world if we wanted to remain in the Customs Union?

  19. There's so much sense in this post, I don't know where to begin other than saying I agree with pretty much all of it. So you're left (maybe centre-left with acknowledging full blown socialism won't work) and I'm right (centre-right) and yet we both voted leave for very similar reasons. The 'racist' tag for was counter productive for the remain campaign, it just made people dig their heels in. Why we can't have a grown up debate about immigration (which in my mind is largely an economic one, although not entirely) without denouncing half of the debate as racist is just petulant. Your anal

  20. Yeah, its rare you find someone on the left that would vote leave, i voted leave because I don’t like the lobbying from the big companies to shape policy, The economics of Europe are beyond capitalism, its corporatism. How could anyone on the left vote for that? In my social circles i have to defend and explain my choice and that i am not a racist, i think thats sad, as the left have always traditionally been eurosceptic. Its this fear that social media has created that you are racist if you voted to leave, its not a good direction for politics imo Ideally I would have liked some tra

  22. So the PPK arrived yesterday afternoon, together with everything I needed to fit it (Teflon tape, silicon grease) except instructions! The lack of instructions was solved with a quick search on YouTube and the kit was fitted in about 30min. I’ve pulled a few shots with it now and have been pleasantly surprised at how easy it’s been to hit and hold 9bar. No hissing, bending or flexing. I realise now that I must have been pulling well above 10bar with my early shots on this machine after I first got it. So a worthwhile, if expensive, upgrade.

  23. Good news While I'm waiting for the machined couplers I thought I'll try to make one myself, in order to carry on with testing. After a 2 day torture I managed to get 1 piece done, and Eureka it's holding pressure. My assumption is confirmed now, the 0.5mm orifice in the gauge coupler 100% eliminates the needle flutter, yet it is really responsive to pressure changes, so reflects the actual brew pressure punctually. Later on today I'll film it as well, to let you guys see the result. I'll test it in the next few days and hopefully than I can order the first batch of these

On brew priority, setting one and i'me using a whole load of different beans (currently have 7 or 8 different types but all in the medium roast range) Typical shot target is 22g in and 45-48g out, sometimes a little more if i'm experimenting , From lifting the lever, so including the 10 second or so preinfusion, i aim for around 44-48 second shot time. Took some time getting the grinder dialled in but i now seem to have most beans covered with a small range of lever adjustments

  27. Hi Everyone Newbie here, just thought I’d post my current setup. I’ve had the Gaggia for around 8 years and started off using Illy Red pre-ground (disaster!) before moving onto a Rhinowares manual hand grinder to start experimenting in the world of coffee beans. This was fine and worked well but I got the Sage Pro grinder a few years back to make my life easier. I’ve registered on the forum now as I’ve got an itch to upgrade and I’m enjoying reading about everyone’s experiences/tips. My plan a while back was to get a Sage DB but my heads been turned by the Lelit Mara X whic

  36. I think this is going to be another Trump/Brexit where the woke left will be left scratching their heads after their plan of calling people racist etc didn't win voters over. The current media would lead you to believe that everyone is woke and the world hates Trump but the truth is that people are just scared to speak out against the current zeitgeist out of fear for their jobs and general backlash. A hell of a lot of people still support Trump and you don't have to tell anyone who you voted for. Even if he loses I think it will be a lot closer than people think.

I often hear the argument well they call me “chalky, i don't care” but when have those words ever held you back, what offence does that actually cause you? got you searched, pulled over, beaten up and ancestors raped and pillaged and abused in the most horrific ways? When you really research the slave trade, the most disturbing thing is how recent it actually was, and is now! Same with Golly Wog dolls, we should n

  41. An Insight about different espresso recipes by charting the first derivative of the puck resistance "Puck resistance" is a concept I added to the DE1 a few months ago, but we’ve been struggling a bit to understand what to do with the information. Collin Arneson yesterday posted an interesting writeup arguing for the 1st derivative of the puck resistance number. This is a chart of the change in puck resistance. This number shows us when puck integrity falls apart, regardless of flow rate or pressure changes that might obscure that trend. What I found interesting was that

  43. @Wisey - There is a screw underneath the Eureka badge you should be able to lift off with a fingernail but you shouldn’t need to. Are you definitely adjusting the dial slowly with the motor spinning? Agree on the cheapo kg of beans and have a play around. Back off by a full couple of turns, Hoover both ends and see if the grinder runs. With it un plugged and switched off gently turn the brass central nut clockwise and adjust tighter until you can feel it begin to touch metal to metal. Back it off say a half or full turn and then play around moving it finer/coarser about a 12th of a t

  47. Interesting, I've found similar and especially so with the beans themselves. Roasting at home as you know you can have good and bad batches, Plus ones which need more resting. I often open the bag every few days for a good sniff and taste one bean. I find that light roasts that are not rested enough have those vegetal grass aromas, then develop into more biscuits. Then dark roasts have roasty burned aroma and develop into bittersweet dark chocolates. Good espresso and coffee should smell as inviting, if not more so, than it tastes

  48. Can you imagine the reaction if I had said it looked crap. I actually tried a very similar product, it worked the same way, but was far better made. Also in production and available for the unwary to purchase. Making an "it's crap" video is a lot of work and why I don't bother wasting my time doing them.. Amusing though they are. I tried it once, enough to see it was total rubbish (in my opinion), with the same problems plus some the guy making the video didn't think about. I personally won't t be backing that KS project.
