On 31 July I will be riding 100 miles in support of Aspire

Why?, because every eight hours, someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time. Without warning, someone's life changes completely. Aspire exists to provide essential support, equipment and advice to people with spinal cord injuries in the UK and Ireland.
RideLondon-Surrey 100 is a closed roads cycle ride starting from Olympic Park and heading through London to the Surrey Hills before returning to The Mall.

Aspire is a charity helping to provide the practical support that can be needed by those who sustain spinal cord injuries.
Without the kind of basic access features and adaptations included as standard in an Aspire property such as level access throughout, adequately wide doorways, enough space to turn a wheelchair in all rooms, accessible bathroom, kitchen and bedrooms unadapted homes simply prevent spinal injured people from living.

Your donations will help improve quality of life for those who sustain a life changing spinal cord injury - that can happen at any time.

I have already started training for this event and would like to beat last years time too.

Every person who donates via my JustGiving Link will also go into a draw for some Coffee Forums UK merchandise.

Simply leave a comment below and add your forum username when donating.

Thank you in advance to all who support me. I will update you with training progress frequently.

Woot! My first donation has come in - from a family who have benefitted from Aspire's assistance over the years.

At 0615 tomorrow morning I will be heading out on a cycle ride in training for the event.

I'm really hoping the temperatures will be above freezing...

I'm back from a 30 mile training ride in the country lanes around Harefield, Chalfont St Peter and Denham.

This is my second 30 miler in as many weeks as I am ramping up towards my 100 miles steadily.

I've covered more miles year to date than I have previously.

Go Glenn… I was out for the first time this year - combination of being away, rubbish weather and waiting for the right moment. A chill wind but fabulous sunshine. I hope the sun shone on you.

It did, after a foggy start.

At least it was 4c warmer this week than at the same time I started out last week.

Had a great ride. Looking forward to more trips out towards the Chilterns in the coming months.

How have I missed this? I used to work at a research lab very close to RNOH in Stanmore, we used to develop equipment to help paraplegic patients communicate via eye movement – this was decades ago when such things were pretty revolutionary. If I remember correctly, the guy that did most of the work on that project was a keen cyclist and used to ride 10+ miles each way to work every day. As a cyclist both on and off road, and a motorcyclist, I think this is a worthy cause and am glad to see that the work of Aspire is still continuing and being supported. Proud to help in a small way. May the wind be at your back good sir!

In 2 weeks time I will be going through my final checklist of items for the Ride100 event - taking place on 31 July 2016

I'm heading into my last 2 weeks of training and hope I have done enough to get around the course (as I did last year)

I'm heading out to ride more miles tomorrow, after setting a few personal bests (for average speed over a set course) over the past few weeks, but know that the weather on the day and my fuelling will be the biggest factor of my success.

Thank you to those who have sponsored me so far.

Please click on this link or photo below to read more about my ride and to sponsor me - every little helps - and goes to a great charity which really makes a difference to peoples lives
