The South West Coffee Festival is taking place between the 4th-6th August 2017 at Powderham Castle, Exeter. The festival is open as a trade show and consumer show, so whether you're a coffee shop owner interested in networking, or a family looking for a fun day out, there is something for everyone.

For trade and baristas, the South West Coffee Festival is bringing together producers and wholesalers that make up and support the thriving third wave coffee scene in the south west.

Businesses can register for a free trade pass for the festival and events within, as we are encouraging networking and discovering the stories behind the products and the best kept secrets of the trade.

For home brewers and coffee enthusiasts, the festival is a great opportunity to meet new people, perfect your brewing skills, and find new coffees, blends and tricks of the trade. There will be many guest speakers and workshops so you can hear about the latest trends in the third wave industry and stories from small businesses to inspire. Many of the businesses signed up will be offering exclusive show prices so you can try and buy, as well as help you get started on your coffee journey.

We've had a fantastic year here at Coffee Forums UK.

We have had over 850000 visitors - making 2016 our busiest year ever.

I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting many of you personally at both trade events and those coordinated by members, as well as the random meetings at coffeeshops too.

Your enthusiasm for visiting the forum drives us to keep the site online as much as possible, and we've delivered that (so far) this year.

We have welcomed onboard some fantastic forum sponsors, and would like to thank you for supporting them.
Without the support of our sponsors we could not meet the cost of hosting and maintaining the forum, and would not have been able to create the custom theme. Please continue to click the banners and buy from forum sponsors where possible.

This year we have also helped launch some products on Kickstarter.
The Oomph and Kruve (was Rafino) are now both in production - partly thanks to the support of Coffee Forums UK members.

You've bought all but 3 of our limited edition forum t-shirts and all our KeepCups are now given away too.
Keep an eye out for new merchandise in the new year.

I look forward to interacting with as many members as possible in 2017 and on behalf of the moderating team would like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thanks to Urbanbumpkin for this masterpiece

CoLab: returns this November 28-30 with a brand-new format set to engage attendees with the speakers and the local community – the most interactive CoLab yet! The main day of CoLab: Barcelona, held on 29 November at Cooccio, will include talks by three voices of our industry who will lead attendees through three hands-on workshops. With a translator on hand, the event will be inclusive to both the local and international community. Two half days of CoLab fringe events will put the local community in the spotlight.

The three CoLab: Barcelona speakers and their talk titles are:

    • Ger O’Donohoe | Owner, First Draft Coffee | 2016, What The Worst Year Taught Me About Service
    • Kim Elena Ionescu | Director of Sustainability, SCAA | Sustainability Asks First and Solves Second
    • Francis Percival | Food Editor, World of Fine Wine | Aged, Creamy, And Stinky: What Cheese Can Teach Us About The Power Of Language

After their morning talks, each speaker will lead an afternoon workshop building on their topic. Attendees can get up close and personal with the speakers whilst they develop new skills in tasting and service with Francis & Ger, or acquire knowledge on life as a producer from Kim Elena.

CoLab: Barcelona puts the local community at the heart of the event. The event will start with a look at a related industry: Blanxart Chocolate Factory opens its doors for a tour and presentation on the delights of cocoa and chocolate production. At the end of the main day, local baristas and cafe owners Jordi Mestre (Nomad), Elisabet Sereno (True Artisan Cafe), Miguel Lamora (Atman’s Coffee), and Salvador Sans (Cafés El Magnífico) will discuss ‘What’s Unique About Coffee In Spain?’ in an engaging panel, moderated by Stephen Morrissey. The event will close on Nov 30 with a range of activities for CoLab'ers to delve into the local coffee scene through tours, roastery visits and cuppings!

As part of CoLab’s goal to bring coffee communities together, BGE has decided to invite a translator to the event. “Connecting with the local community is key to the success of CoLab,” explains Guild Manager, Isa Verschraegen. “We have realised that language differences sometimes hold people back from gaining the most out of our events. We’re excited that we’re able to offer translation services for the first time at a BGE event, indicative of our goal to create an inclusive and engaged community.”

The coffee scene in Barcelona is thriving – the balmy November weather, awesome architecture and booming coffee vibes all help to make CoLab: Barcelona a fantastic, don’t-miss event.Tickets are available via the BGE website, and include access to all of the programmed events, lunch and refreshments on the main day.

It might be the end of the summer (sad face), but that means one very exciting thing for us at Cup North HQ – it's now only nine weeks until our annual coffee festival! We're returning to our usual home at Victoria Warehouse with all of our usual line-up plus lots of brand new extras in store for festival go-ers.

New to the program this year is our Sustainability Hub where we will host a series of workshops with sustainability at the heart of the sessions – think 'growing mushrooms in used coffee grounds' or 'creating homewares from coffee by-products'. Vegware has come on board as partners for this new exciting area at Manchester Coffee Festival, and you can check out the awesome work they have been doing with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall here

Other new festival activities include live coffee roasting, the La Marzocco lounge, SCAE education, a new Tamper Tantrum program and a whole load of first-time exhibitors.

We'll be updating you over the coming weeks with the finer details of all the interactive elements of Manchester Coffee Festival but in the meantime, you can bag yourself a ticket below.

Barista Camp returns in 2016 on 10–13 October and is once again headed to a seafront location, setting up Camp in the beautiful city of Pärnu, located on the Gulf of Riga. Smack in the middle between between Estonia's capital Tallinn to the north, and the capital of Latvia, Riga in the south, Pärnu is an excellent base for the third BGE Barista Camp.

Barista Camp 2016 will follow the successful format of previous Camps, with a variety of educational tracks on offer, in addition to group lectures and tastings, and of course social activities to wind down in the evenings. Each track consists of either one Intermediate SCAE Coffee Diploma System module, or two Foundation level modules.

BGE sourced the beautiful new hotel and spa complex, Estonia Resort, to host both Barista Camp, and the inaugural RGE Roaster Camp. Isa Verschraegen, Guild Manager, reports:
“After reaching out to our community via a tender process early this year, we were overwhelmed by the quantity and quality of responses. We are absolutely thrilled to bring Camp to this wonderful venue in a more northern location in Europe. The Baltics have seen growth in their coffee scene and we hope to accelerate their development by bringing our Guild Camps here. The venue offers the perfect setting for our camps with modern rooms and meeting facilities; and plenty of opportunities to connect as well as relax in the evenings.”

Ticket sales for Barista Camp will launch during World of Coffee in Dublin, and will be available online from June 23rd. Tickets include delegates’ preferred track of CDS modules, including certification, as well as all other educational and social activities at camp, 3 nights of accommodation at the 4* Estonia Resort, and all meals. Early bird prices will be available until Monday 1 August 2016 where a limited number of single rooms (non-sharing) can be booked so we recommend buying early to secure the best option!

    Early Bird SCAE Member - €475 Early Bird Non-Member - €550

Barista Guild of Europe will be present at World of Coffee, sharing an exciting booth with Roaster Guild of Europe. Come meet the working group, learn more about the program at Camp, take part in our #GuildCoffeeSwap, and grab your chance to win a ticket to camp! Find us at K3 near the Sustainability Forum.
