    • Mazzer Mini has a plain metal adjustment ring, so with an oil filter spanner or wooden tool made to measure you should be able to grab the whole adjuster. M5 screws just might not be up to the job... how to remove a decapitated screw... an el cheapo screw extractor off Amazon (something like https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=screw+remover+pro+-+damaged+screw+extractor&sprefix=screw+remov&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_11) should do the trick! Good luck
    • Thanks for both your replies! the bottom burr is free to spin yeah and ok to be fair there is already one sheared bolt from what i assume was the old adjustment pin(any tips on removing also welcome haha), i just figured if i could divide the moment by 2 or 3 i might be safe but arguably not the safest bet! Re: the clamp setup you're describing im not 100% sure i follow what's going where, presumably this would still need to be secured in the adjustment pin holes? (probably misunderstanding here)
    • NOOOO to the 5mm bolts in case you shear one or more If you do go this route make the very base of the screw the anchor point for maybe a strap then use the whole adjuster as the fulcrum for a long lever Make a clamp out of a good sized piece of wood with right sized hole cut in it then drill edge on for two big bolts and finally cut in half in order to be able to clamp tight. Alternatively make a couple of straps out of 1/4" steel and drill and clamp those or see if you can get a bluepoint filter wrench the right size All methods will require the grinder body secured and a long lever on any of the clamps. Quick question.... Can you spin the bottom burr?
    • I had a very informative visit to DaveC's today and learnt and tremendous amount, that no end of watching youtube could have ever given me, so firstly a big thank you to Dave for his coffee, time and more importantly knowledge. So this is what I learnt today So I now understand why a dual boiler is the way to go and why a Niche grinder would be a very good place to jump in at. The quality of the water you put in the machine is very important and this can't be stressed enough for the longevity of the machine. Cleaning the screens is a daily thing Pressure profiling might make your coffee taste different not necessarily better. Not all single estate coffee's are the same grade So on the back end of today; An ACS Minima is on the shopping list any thoughts? I don't like the look of the Niche so despite it's obvious USP and great price its not getting in my kitchen, so what else would be a good? Can anyone recommend some weighting scales?
    • Shin from Decent Espresso Korea has started creating "Coffee Shin TV" episodes.  They're far, far more fun than my videos, and better shot and more informational. Damn! Here's his video, on how to convert the DE1PRO model into a DE1XL, along with how to countersink it.
    • Not too bad. Still got lots of potential for improvement. Mainly controlling fermentation and handling I think.
    • I think the plan is fine, you might want to use a three leg oil filter spanner on it, good luck
    • Few months back, paired a Niche alongside my EK43s against a Londinium Mk II and a Londinium R. The Niche produced good shots but was, understandably, not able to hit the notes the EK could. Point to note, the beans used were a lighter roast. Above, you mention your tastes are towards medium dark. So you might want to think about a conical grinder. With a budget of £1k, you should be able to get a really top class grinder that will get the best out of a Londinium - especially if you are willing to consider used.  A word of caution - advice is just that. If you can, try and find some hands on experience - especially regarding a decision to go for a conical vs flat burr grinder using beans roast profile you enjoy.
    • how soon?  we are off on a road trip starting Sunday, wont be back until 11th September
    • Up to or in the vicinity of £1000, but willing to spend enough to gain the benefits of the Londinium; no point in having the Londinium otherwise, right? (I will also be searching used.)
