Glenn: I have resolved the issue, and it's all down to operator error, I'm afraid. It's all to do with me adjusting the viewing size (magnification) of the posts using Control+mouse wheel. At certain sizes, when I hit the "Select Files" button in the attachment manager, nothing happens. But if I adjust the size and try again, the pop-up appears linking to my C Drive.

Sorry to have been a pain over this - I had always suspected that it was me not being able to see the wood for the trees, but I'm up to speed with it now. Hopefully my experience may prove useful if it happens to anyone else.
